People here complained about conservative moderator.. but I have never been banned here (other than by myself for lowering my standards) but on TOS, I appear to be banned for comparing what's going on in Seattle to Mao's revolution, calling it a cultural war and predicting a violent outcome. In other words, banned for stating the obvious. And, technically, what I said doesn't break any of their 4 rules for that board... and no communication from them.. no recognition in the thread where they removed the post.... if I lived in Seattle this would be the equivalent a van pulling up and disappearing me.

oh.. and by "nicest weather", dave means the only time Seattle is not so dreary you want to kill yourself is july and august.
That’s exactly why you wouldn’t be banned here. And also a big reason why the board didn’t last- the “moderators” were actually co-conspirators.

Spent 2 months in Seattle during basic training 1971 at Ft.Lewis ... out of 70 days we had a record rainfall total of 58 inches. On clear days , of which they were far and in between , Mt. Rainer is a magnificent site . The Sea-Tac areas were old and dingy then but this was in mid winter so yes , It is dreary ... residents used to say “ but you should see July and August...2 months out 12 ain’t bad right? I swore then I would never go back. What is now going on is a movement which has been allowed to fester for years .

I go on business 3-4x /year, don't go in winter, it is cloudy / misty / rainy nearly every day. I talked to a local who said it rained for 28 straight days, the sun came out for an hour, then rained for another 30 days...

Great beer city: Black Raven, Stoup, Fremont, Reubens ...

He wasn’t whistling Dixie that’s for sure. No wonder Kurt Cobain committed suicide. Depression I would presume is an off shoot of weather like that.

I worked for a Seatle company for a bit after a merger.. did 2 weeks, 1 week here and there for most of a year. I worked from New Jersey (or NYC) for all my jobs with travels. Drove to Silicon Valley to start a new job. On the drive, I stopped at Mt. St. Helens and Oregon Dunes and the redwoods.. picked up a couple hitchikers in Sonoma... they were wearing wetsuits having kayaked around and wanted to go into town for some coffee. Fun drive.

My buddy who lives there and works at Kaiser says there’s armed locals in Capitol hill extorting local business and residents for “protection” since police aren’t patrolling there anymore.

Aside from that I’ve heard it’s a so-so place to live but a nice place to visit

Will be interesting to see how the Capitol Hill situation works out. Police only enter that area for 911 calls. Not sure that the local warlords will want to give up their new found territory, but hoping for the best.

It better be a great beer city with weather like that!

I think i may wait on my visit, just saw the news and it appears a large group of anglo saxons with no jobs are upset about the way things are going lately and have taken over the city. It must be a nice place though, the police, it appears, gave them one of their precinct buildings to use as a residence while they air their grievances. That was nice of them.

Wait until takeovers begin happening in other cities or directly in our towns here in New Jersey. Would we be so apt to not see that it would be a danger to local taxpayers. What if Easton Ave. In New Brunswick was blocked off ? Would that be acceptable to Rutgers ? When it’s not your city you really don’t understand this is NOT a good thing.

I think you'll need some form of ID to enter the new anarchist utopia. (not kidding, they check IDs on everyone.. how's that for hypocritical anarchy?)

Anyone been? Have some vacation days to use and was thinking of going out there this weekend. Looks like a fun place
After your Emerald City tour, you might want to hit up Portsmouth. Go now or you'll miss the breathtaking falling statues. Kinda like foliage, but with more exposed skull damage.

Read the first few replies and gave up.

Or some of us just chose to change the narrative. It does not take a lot of effort to find something positive in a city like Seattle.

If I'm thinking what Scarlet1984 is referring to by "first few replies" as what I saw in this thread during the hour after the OP until almost midnight, then that stuff appears to have been cleaned up sometime during the overnight hours because it was on its way to being a disaster.

See Seattle and the touristy things like Pikes Place Market, but then take a ferry West to the Olympic Penninsula. Port Townsend (Cape May of the West with Victorian homes), Hurricane Ridge and (must do) drive Obstruction Point road and hike above the timber line, Sol Duc Falls, Hoh Rain Forest, Kalaloch Lodge, etc. You should also consider a day in Victoria (it’s where Canadians want to retire)... take a ferry from Port Angeles. Finally if time allows The San Juan islands are a cool place to visit. There are also a ton of good hiking spots heading east to the cascades.
You've compiled a great list, as I've visited everything on it. Mt. Rainier is a must along with some great beaches on the peninsula.

Seattle is a pretty cool city, but the homeless problem has grown in recent years. Sadly, same can be said for most cities. What sets Seattle apart is how close the "natural world" is to the metropolitan area. Get out and see some of that on your visit. Nicest weather is in July and August, but not sure if the protests will be over by then.
Most cities? I live in a town with a population of easily 100k ... in a county with close to a million... if you allow the homeless population to proliferate and then do nothing to help the situation you get... San Francisco , Seattle ...Oahu , Hawai’i has done an extremely good job in the area of helping the destitute, drug dependent and mentally ill who traverse to Hawaii from the mainland. It’s a cool city is a term which is not relevant in this day and age.

I saw it this morning post clean up. I just assumed people didn’t get it or didn’t take the bait.

I do think it’s interesting that most of the people who were active CE posters seem to have no difficulty respecting the request to stop the political arguments.

Some people just can’t let it go.

I’m moving on.

I usually do about 100 days a year in Seattle for business and have my 2nd residence out there (and 2nd country club!). Great city. Weather is great and the amount of days it rains is waaaayyy overstated. If I look at the rounds of golf I play between November-March and compare Seattle to DC (my home) it is easily 2 or 3 to 1 in favor of Seattle. And I spend 2/3 of my time in DC. Better winters (it never snows and rarely ever drops below 40) and much better summers.

If you twist my words it could be called a "threat" rather than a prediction.

I basically said this is a cultural war like Mao's cultural revolution and that cell phones have replaced the little red books. I suggested the now-silent masses will get to a point where they will respond when they realize it is a war and there will be violence. I added a propaganda poster of Mao with his young zealots holding up their little red books.

It was a prediction based on history. Things like this do not end well... for one side or the other. Someone will lose.

So, yeah,. that post disappeared.. it was in a thread called "real cop".. that looks like no one has responded to it. I then tried to post in the Seattle thread and I could not. So my take-away is that someone saw that Mao post and deleted it and banned me. Even though I did NONE of the 4 points under rules of the board. I got no email explaining what had happened.

Cowardly censorship. Anyone can post why the protests and riots by BLM are "understandable".. but merely predicting there will be counter-revolutionary violence is silenced.

Not trying to be an ***, but when armed protestors moved on the Capitols in Michigan, North Carolina, etc. why wasn't/isn't that part of a "cultural war" that would result in the "now-silent masses will get to a point where they will respond when they realize it is a war and there will be violence."?

Not trying to be an ***, but when armed protestors showed up at the Capitols in Michigan, North Carolina, etc. why wasn't/isn't that a "cultural war" that would result in the "now-silent masses will get to a point where they will respond when they realize it is a war and there will be violence."?
They left. They did not riot. They did not loot. No cops were harmed... no one else was harmed.

That's one difference.

They were asking for a return to the old normal.. not trying to create a new government with new rules outside the normal lawmaking process.

That's another difference.

Also.. seems the ban process on TOS deleted ALL my posts there. I can still find references of LIKES and replies quoting my posts.. but the posts themselves are gone. So cowardly. The leftists complained about a conservative mod here but given the mod position there they go nuts, breaking their own rules, not mentioning or justifying any action. So typical.

Since 1950 the rainfall totals in Seattle Washington have increased steadily. In 2019 the rainfall totals were 71” of precipitation double from the average... Seattle receives 155 sunny days per year out of 365.24 days . Of course being on the Puget Sound temps are moderate ... Seattle averages 38 inches of rain normally per year...much less snow... only around 5”. July and August are usually great ... clear and dry... better golf in cities with more sunny non damp weather.

I thought it was cool. Not so much the actual tour, but rather the insights on the history of Seattle and how it developed. To each their own.

I thought it sounded interesting. Not sure why Dave was so dismissive.

Washington's a great state all around. Gorgeous scenery all over, tons of land, water, snow activities, nice wine/apple country, great breweries, fun towns. Hear the weather's much better on the east side of the Cascades; too bad it's just a bit far out from Seattle metro and the airport or it'd be tops on my list of places to live.

I made a good decision to move there back in 1994.
