This may be snowflaky to some but this is my hunting camp. This is where I’m happy.
Butters made it to 11 years and 3 months. A bulldog fan through and through. She even had a crush on a boxer when she was 2....
She went fully blind right before her 7th birthday. These last 5 years has been a a test of patience and love. I don’t have kids. She was my planet.
Im not here to debate but she was the best dog in the world. No questions asked.... An absolute beast in the water, she was. Didn’t miss many meals and quite often had some extras. She never growled at anything. Baby’s could tug, light her on fire....water torture...she would just sit wagging.
She wasn’t an official service dog but I can say, she worked overtime for me. When she became blind, I became her eyes. We didn’t miss a beat. Running, she would trust me. I would use “snaps” to steer her. If I was about to veer left, I would start snapping my left fingers....she would follow right behind. She really didn’t need me but I think she knew it was pure entertainment.
Watching an animal, who’s already incredibly gifted, lose a sense.....only to have her ears and nose become more powerful....it’s pretty remarkable. Her memory, the math she must do in her head....She seldom missed a step. She could sniff out piece of bacon before the pig was slaughtered. Could tell if I was within miles of her....I’ve seen it on video.
Tough day, pack. I’m going to buy some Vodka. She loved a good White Russian.
RIP Baby Girl
