Hey guys, as some of you know I'm currently a student on the banks. I'm a Junior in the School of Engineering and majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. I'm also in the Marching Band and Pep Band and a super RU athletics fan. I'm looking for a possible internship this summer, and was wondering if anyone on here has any opportunities. At this point, I'm looking for field experience. I'm interested in several different areas, including motor sports, architecture, mechanical systems and design. I have experience in a machine shop doing research at Rutgers, I've built a go kart racing engine with my grandpa and we work on my kart together. I also am tech-savvy and am familiar with SolidWorks, Sketchup, and a lot of Mac programs.

I heard that there are many civil and electrical internships. Not so sure about mechanical.

Any specific location you are looking for? Lockheed Martin always has a ton of internships, however many of the mechanical internships are located in TX.

If you like working with your hands, you should consider some non-traditional routes. I was talking to someone the other day who's a plumber (but an engineer by training) and doing very well. He's the kind of plumber who hasn't touched a toilet in over a decade (does radiant heating for high end houses). Anyway, everyone in the industry who has any smarts whatsoever is aging out. If you are willing to learn for a few years, with an engineering background and some business knowledge you could make a fortune. If this interests you, let me know and I can see if he'd be willing to pass your resume on. It's a very small community.

A good friend of mine (RU mechanical engineering grad) works with control systems at Loring Consulting Engineers in Manhattan, and my firm may have a few MEP openings (mostly in the greater NY-area offices) as well as a branch office in South Plainfield.
