Can anyone shed some light as to why a B10 team would pour it on like this knowing full well our BB is struggling? I'm not begrudging anyone a win but where's the ****ing sportsmanship?

What? If RU can't compete and defend them from scoring, why would any opponent let up? I don't get this concept of mercy or letup in a competitive engagement. It's on the RU BB staff and players to prevent that from happening.

Like what the football program just did, a total overhaul is needed for the men's BB program.

there was no pouring it on. Rutgers is terrible. Purdue wants their team sharp for when they play real teams

boo hoo, get out here with the running the score bs..this is big boy basketball.

Their second-teamers, as well as their total bench-warmers (who rarely get time in games), made the most of their time and didn't miss shots. It wasn't a matter of sportsmanship, it's a matter of them not missing layups or threes. They got a lot of offensive boards, which meant they were five feet from the bucket on their next shot. We are depleted and haven't got much fire power other than Corey, and had no big men playing tonight.

And I never ***** about sportsmanship--if you don't want to get crushed, don't put yourself in a position to be crushed.

As I said in the BBall thread: "I am not BBall guy but I turned the game on. Does our team really look like a high school team? Every kid is giving up 25lbs and 1 foot. Is there any decent HS BBall player out there that wants to start for a B1G team??????"

F$cking sad. Won't tune in again. I felt sorry for that high school team we dressed in RU uniforms tonight.

The end of their bench was out playing our starters at points. It's hoops, there is a shot clock, and kids who don't play much want to score and defend. There is blame to be placed, but it's not on them.

It's hard to believe but Sagarin had 96 teams listed below us in his rankings.Tomorrow, that number should shrink.

According to purdues site, we scored 0 points. Wouldn't surprise me. Did anyone actually witness rutgers score points? Or are we going off faulty evidence a LA Steven Avery?

Because they could have put the cheerleaders in and we still would have lost by 25

Bottom line is that we suck and the team plays uninspired basketball...

Make all the excuses you want, but Eddie was a crappy coach in the pros and is no better in college

Please don't post this in the Football board, some of us are trying to pretend that Rutgers doesn't have a Men's Basketball team.

exactly. Its too depressing. If we wanted to see how bad the basketball team was we could check the scores ourselves. We all know they suck. I haven't watched a game in years and I rarely if ever go on the hoops board any longer.

Maybe the board mods should take away the mens hoops board and change it to the wrestling board.

They played 11 guys 14 minutes or more and 13 overall with the other two getting 4 minutes each. One starter played 21 minutes and the rest played less then 20. What more do you want Purdue to do? Intentionally miss shots? Not play defense?

Its also pretty sad when 1000 plus Purdue fans take over the RAC with their Bolier Up cheers

At the end, I think Purdue had student managers in the game... outrebounding us and hitting uncontested threes against our starters.

I was at the game and it was depressing even so a big crowd showed up, granted most of the fans were from Purdue.

I think the only hope here is that the AD will be able to push us being a Big 10 school for the first time, hopefully that can get us someone decent at least.

Purdue had 13 players get time on the court. We only had 7 or 8 player healthy enough to suit up. The height differential was a big factor too. Sure, we suck, but its tough to say how much the coaching is to blame.

Purdue rebounds - 62.
Rutgers points - 57.

And for the second time in the EJ era, Rutgers didn't score enough to beat their opponent's halftime score.

Having no depth is an indictment of the coaching staff. And it isn't exactly like a mostly healthy roster was blowing people away.

You're right, the healthy roster wasn't blowing people away but they weren't losing by 50 either. The coaching staff didn't injure the 4 players that sat out last night.

Had Purdue and RU traded coaches a week ago, I don't think the outcome of last night's game would have been much different.

We would have lost by less. Painter is a real college coach who gets it. His kids are prepared.

If we traded coaches w/ Purdue a couple years ago, we would have much more talent as well as a better bench coach. We would have kicked their ***.
