I'll admit I was not a fan of the first one, but did watch last night. Thought it was kind of funny but the acting was pretty bad. I did like how they got the ***** hats some air time

Never watched much the first time around, but the show had some laughs. The only thing that looked forced was the 9 year old cross dresser, felt pretty awkward. Otherwise, I'll watch again.

I'm with you. The acting is terrible. I also felt like they forced these issues into conversations where they'd never happen naturally. I already stopped watching after one episode.

It's f*cking awful. Even John Goodman - who has done some great acting - seems forced and poorly timed. And the not-Sarah-Chalke-Becky chick is maybe the worst actress I've ever seen.

Jokes are fine but if they were done by better actors they would be really good.

The show does not compare to shows like The Goldberg's or Modern Family

Wow - I thought it was great - I had lots of laughs. The becky character isn't that great, but she never was (she was replaced, remember)

Na Its fine and it’s funny. Not looking for critically acclaimed acting awards for sitcom. Looking for laughs at real issues .

Are people really arguing that John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf are bad actors??? Metcalf should have won the Oscar this year, she was incredible in Ladybird.

Her scenes with Roseanne have been the real highlight.

Sara Gilbert has shown some real acting chops so far too. Relatable modern single parent, and she's been nailing some verrry difficult acting beats.

Yes, some of the acting is bad, but I respect them for putting the old cast together without replacing anyone.

Funny, topical show that brings in all audiences, and is far more grounded and 'real' than the other comparable modern family varieties.

They are normally good actors but Goodman has not been great acting wise in this show so far

Yeah, but that's really the point. Goodman and Metcalf are serious actors, yet the comedic timing of the show is absolutely horrible. It borders on what an old high school drama teacher of mine referred to as "Bad Theatre".

And the Becky chick sucks. Sarah Chalke, "the other Becky", who did a cameo on last week's episode, would have been a much better choice.

Only watched the 2nd episode and will not return. Acting bad and dialog seems forced. Another rehash that is not as good as the original.

I agree with the thoughts on Lecy Goranson. Her voice these days is very grating, and she never was much of an actor. Sara Gilbert was awesome in the first "Roseanne" and there are hints we'll get some more of that.

I was a huge fan of the original. Comparing this to that is unfair, I suppose, but it's just not in the same class. Taken on its own, it's a pretty good sitcom, but they didn't nail the reboot the way "Will and Grace" did. At least not yet.

To each their own, I guess. I really like it, and don't like the Will & Grace reboot....

Modern Family has been awful for a long, long time. Only good for the first few seasons. Best sitcoms are the Middle and Big Bang.

Both are also good

I always find a few laughs watching Modern Family

I agree with both sentiments. Pilots and early episodes are always a little rough though - takes awhile to get chemistry down. Especially in front of a live audience. John Goodman's a force, and I think will shine when he's given his own A story, instead of these B subplots.

Becky really does suck, but once again, I appreciate that they kept the same cast. I think her bad acting (over-acting) actually makes her into a character - kind of like Kimmy Gibbler all those years. You start to enjoy how bad she is. Most importantly, she's not headlining and is arguably the least important character in the show, so it's just not a big deal to me. I like that the family kind of knows she sucks.

Once Goodman, Roseanne and Metcalf hit the top of their game and get the rhythm down pat, I think it'll be one of the strongest acting trios on TV.
