OT: Roof Cargo Boxes

Been looking for a roof cargo box, hard shell, for a couple days and it seems almost impossible to find one that’s not on Amazon. We need one in about 10 days and even the over priced stuff on Amazon won’t ship until past that. I’m wondering if there’s a store that actually has them or if they are possibly even available for rental. We’re on the MS Coast. Any help is appreciated.

Check some car dealerships. Volvo, Subaru, and Toyota dealerships sell a bunch and may have them in stock. Bought some Thule stuff from a Volvo dealership and they were cheaper than anywhere else and had it in stock.

I've had a hard top (Sears) and now have a soft top bag that I love. Any reason the soft zip bag is not an option?

Same here. Been really pleased with the soft bag even though I was skeptical. Much easier to stow when not in use.

I remember when I was as a kid we had one from Sears. I would be all for the bag but every review I read on Amazon says they aren’t waterproof. With the amount of rain we’ve been getting, we’re heading up to Louisville, KY so I figure we’ll get rained on at some point. How has yours been with rain?

Did you attach that to a roof rack or to the top of the car? We’re going to put it on a crossbar rack.

I remember when I was as a kid we had one from Sears. I would be all for the bag but every review I read on Amazon says they aren’t waterproof. With the amount of rain we’ve been getting, we’re heading up to Louisville, KY so I figure we’ll get rained on at some point. How has yours been with rain?

First time I used mine we
Went from central MS to Gatlinburg. Rained the entire way. Not a
Drop got through the bag. Can't remember the brand (loaned it to a friend a couple of weeks ago) but it has a fox as the logo.

And it mounts to the roof rack. Has straps you config and then load the bag. Hardest step is to tighten straps. So much easier than a hard top.

If not already, check FB market place. Additionally used car dealers usually take stuff like that off of the cars they buy before putting them up for sale on the lot, you may find one at a used dealer.

If you have a reciever hitch, I like the cargo carrier in the hitch much better! It works good using some water proof totes and hauls much more. It is also a LOT easier to get to and load and unload. Doesn't affect your gas mileage or put a strain on your car. I have them both and never use the roof top anymore.

I have the rear carrier, but need something waterproof to put all my stuff in back there. I had stuff drying out for days in Omaha this year because of a surprise storm in Iowa.

Wonder if one of the soft bags for the top would fit on it?

Probably will work. I have used an aluminum trunk type tool box. Works well and you can lock it.
