A plane rented by Roy Halladay crashed in the Gulf of Mexico today. There is a fatality.

He just bought a new plane a month ago. I know nothing about planes but it looks unconventional - an Icon A5.

If you go to the Icon twitter page it says the first 2018 model went to Halladay.

All his twitter postings are all about flying. Sad.

Crap. One of those greats that I remember quite well from all those years of Jays-Yankees games. Too young. RIP.

Will he go into the HOF next year?Roberto Clemente went in the year after he died.Halladay has one of the highest winning percentages ever.

Two time Cy Young winner, one of only 2 pitchers to throw a no hitter in MLB post season history. He's eligible in 2019. I think he's a no brainer first ballot hall of fame candidate. I suspect they won't waive the additional year but who knows. Was Clemente already eligible when he passed?

Shades of Thurmon Munson. There was Yankee pitcher who recently flew his plane into a high rise building in NYC who also died. Cory Liddle?

Then there is JFK, Jr who took off from our local airport in Caldwell and never made it to Martha's Vinyard, killing his fiancé, her sister and himself.

Very sad news, thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Roy was a great player, gave us baseball fans (especially Phillies fans)some great memories. I was at the playoff no-hitter with my dad and that is something I will never forget.

Clemente was still an active player. Had just gotten his 3000 hit the season before.

I believe he just got his license. He was of that last generation of hurlers.. Nobody threw 100 but they all through heavy sinkers at 92 -95 with extreme movement. Sawed off a lot of bats. Dammit.

Went to high school (Cedar Grove), albeit one year ahead of him, of one of the last people to see JFK Jr alive before he boarded his plane at Essex County Airport. He was interviewed by all the media at the time since he was a pilot that kept his plane parked there too.

Lifelong Yankee fan, so I know how dominating a pitcher he was. Have lived in the Philly area for 30 years and it was a big celebration in this area when the Phillies acquired him. And in a short few years he was beyond loved by Philly fans.
A certain HOFer. Sad he won't be there to live that happiness with his family.

Obviously will always be remembered as a Blue Jay, but as a Phillies fan those three years were so damn fun with the perfect game and no hitter. RIP.

I was heading into my sophomore year at Rutgers when Munson was killed the same way. He was my favorite player growing up. Brought back sad memories.

RIP to Doc Halladay. Your hobby shouldn't kill you...should have picked up golf. Now, two kids without a father...just so sad and senseless.
