Had no idea:Rock guitarist gone at 77. “Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo”:
This is with the Edgar Winter group. Highly recommend the live album he did with Edgar’s brother, Johnny Winter.
Was a producer for a number of Weird Al albums. But I’ll always remember him for Rock n’ Roll Hoochie Koo and doing Slow Ride with Edgar Winter.
Had no idea:
1. He sang Hang on Sloopy. Thought that was a much older song. See #2.
2. That he was 77. Thought he was younger
3. He wrote Real American for Hulk Hogan.
4. As a teen he formed a band called the McCoys with his brother Randy. In the summer of 1965 the songwriting-production team the Strangeloves — comprised of Richard Gottehrer, Jerry Goldstein and Bob Feldman, who’d scored a major hit with “I Want Candy”
You probably know that I Want Candy was a big hit for the band Bow Wow Wow.
Johnny Winter was an all time great guitar player. Derringer was no slouch. He went toe to toe with Winter on the classic Johnny Winter And album. Also played with Steely Dan and Cyndi Lauper. RIP.Johnny Winter was a very good guitar player. Excellent cover of Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo".
The things you may only learn on this forum are . . . . very important. Sometimes, I recall what I read here, and someone says, where did you see that? When I say a Rutgers football message board, they reply, that is probably more enjoyable than talking about Rutgers football. Ouch!In addition to "Real American", he also did the theme for legendary WWF tag team Demolition!!
Pain and destruction is our middle name!!
