Interesting story Meatloaf told about he and a couple of his friends being at Parkland Hospital the day JFK was assassinated. RIP

Bat Out Of Hell is one of my favorite & one of the greatest albums of all time. I saw him in concert & he turned Paradise by the Dashboard Light into a mini play...with him and the "wife" throwing pots & pans at each other during the "praying for the end of time, to hurry up & arrive" lyrics

RIP to an incredible voice

The female vocalist on the recording of "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is Ellen Foley, who declined to perform following the album's release. The original (1977) tour for the album was staffed by Karla DeVito, who also appears in the official video for the song, albeit with Foley's original vocal on the audio track.

Bat out of Hell, that album was worn out by anyone who was in HS and college in the 80s. Driving around looking for a place to drink your beer on a Saturday night in HS, it was a staple in your cassette player.
Cook ‘80 - walking around the apartments it was playing out of everyone’s window.

RIP...

Responsible for one of the greatest and most memorable songs of all time. A staple for anyone who grew up in the late 70s and 80s. Still played in the bars into the 90s.

Two Out of Three also quite underrated

Seem to be losing 2 stars a week at this point😭

Always loved his voice

Saw him way back when at the meadowlands arena.

The newspaper reviewer panned
his performance with a title " pass on the meatloaf", Or something similar, which was a bit clever

Main complaint was that his entire concert was something like seven or eight songs, but as mentioned above, were often extended greatly in length

I enjoyed it as it was

I always thought his career suffered, while he had a great and powerful voice, he was not given, or able to write more songs for himself........ Bat out of hell, and the followup to that one were the two hallmarks of his career, I wish there was more

Are there any better lyrics (anywhere) than this????

"I started swearing to my god
And on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore I'd love you to the end of time

So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive"

A lot of relationships in a nutshell!!

Per a quick google search, it looks like he played at the College Ave gym on March 1, 1978.
That’s the one and only time I saw him in concert. Walked across the street to the Barn from my dorm room at Tinsley.

Pretty sure Jim Steinman (great writer of all the songs) was on piano that night. And Karla DeVito was great too. I seem to recall Meat Loaf started by shouting, “How you doing Rutgers?!” and then asking them to turn the house lights on, because “I wanna get a good look at you!”

The show was great, lots of energy, humor, and theatrics. A very memorable night.

Saw Meat Loaf at the Stone Pony on October 20, 1988. Remember being close to the stage. He was large, very sweaty and animated. Left part of himself on the stage. What I did not recall until looking up the setlist, was that the setlist was only 9 songs. But there was a lot of talking and theatrics between and in the middle of the songs. Surprised that Two out of Three Ain't Bad did not make the setlist, but it seems that song was not played on about 1/3 of that tour.

Setlist FM is a great resource:

Ellen Foley to Night Court fame

Always thought that "Paradise" had two of the better rock vocals of all time. Meat Loaf was great, but the female vocalist was just as good. Years later I found that the female singer was an actress named Ellen Foley. She was a singer and actress who had also appeared on television. On TV, she was in the show Night Court for one or two years, I think. She played this public defender role (that eventually/later went to Markie Post). I would never have guessed that the "Paradise" voice came out of this lady! Great rock vocal! RIP Meat Loaf.

So Carla DeVito took the words right out of her mouth?
Other things of note.

Bat Out of Hell was produced by the genius Todd Rundgren.

Notable musicians:
Rundgren played guitar on all tracks except Heaven Can Wait and For Crying Out Loud
Roy Bittan of the E Street Band played piano on all tracks except For Crying Out Loud.
Edgar Winter played saxophone on You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, All Revved Up and Paradise
Max Weinberg of the E Street Band played drums on the tracks Bat Out of Hell, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth and Paradise.

BTW, the genius behind much of the album concept and pianist, Jim Steinman, passed away on April 19, 2021 at age 73. He produced several successful artists/songs including Total Eclipse of the Heart. Upon Steinman's death, Meat Loaf reacted to Steinman's death by saying, "We didn't know each other, we were each other."

I’m a bit young for this, but Bat Out Of Hell was the first CD I ever owned (I’m the youngest of 4 so was brought up listening to my 8-10 year older siblings music).

Let’s not forget his iconic role as Eddie in Rocky Horror.

I thought I saw him in the Livingstone Gym in like 89/90, but perhaps it was the RAC show in 88.

Great MEATLOAF songs to blast in your car, windows down, nice day....... or...
after a few drinks at a wedding and you find yourself singing the male lead voice opposite your date at the wedding with 15 other drunk guys, thinking we sing it as good as MEATLOAF.... LOL !!! 🤣😂
R.I.P.... you made my 80's music a lot of fun and beyond.

And if I remember correctly, his immediate previous performance was in Philadelphia where he got booed.

Two years before Bat Out of Hell, Meatloaf obtained cult status with his performance in 1975's The Rocky Horrow Picture Show:

Not a fan of Marvin or his hit album......except for the Phil Rizzuto part. And, of course, Ellen Foley.
She sang on The Clash's "Sandanista" album and Joe Jackson's "Body And Soul". I loved her album "The Spirit of St. Louis"...which I still possess.
She was one of the few blondes I ever had a crush on.

Huge meatloaf fan. Sounds like covid killed him and he wasn't vaxxed (he was an anti vaxer). Could have been avoided. We lost a generational talent today. Sad day.
Just get vaxxed people. It can save your life or someone's else
Meat loaf has been ill for years. A placebo won't save him

RIP to a legend
