His daughter, Joetta Clark Diggs was a 4 time Olympian and NJ Hall of Fame member.
His other daughter Hazel was a 3 time Olympian.
In the 2000 Olympic trials his 2 daughters and his daughter in law were the top 3 in the 800 meters. His son was their coach.
Still my favorite line from the movie:

The brother JJ was also a state champ and I believe all American at Nova. I think he is head coach at Stanford after a long run at University of Florida

I was never crazy about Shawshank. Seemed like another Hollywood cupcake hero saving black guy film. Maybe its just Tim Robbins I cant get excited about. I never liked him in anything
Totally disagree. Great movie. Loved the scene where the classical music played while Tim Robbins locked himself in the wardens office.
Granddaughter Talitha Diggs another superstar and she is in HS. Daughter of Joetta I think.
I forgot about "Invictus" where Freeman played Mandela. I think he was better there than in the Clark film
Correct, she is one of the top runners in the country just like her mom was. She is going to University of Florida to run in the fall
My older sister went to Eastside back in the 1970’s heard it was scary back then. Glad we moved to the suburbs before I had to go to HS.
I remember Joetta running in the NJ cross country championship at Holmdel Park in November ‘78. Her name kind of found a spot in my long term memory section, being it’s different, so I remembered her when she started doing well in college and after. Then I found out she was Joe’s daughter - and obviously named after Joe, who I had known of separately, but didn’t make the connection until later - and then the rest of the family. Good set of genes the kids inherited.
