Elgin was on the Minneapolis Lakers' plane that was forced to make an emergency landing in an Iowa cornfield in 1960.He stretched out on the floor saying "If I gotta go,I gotta go."

After the plane landed safely,it was discovered that the plane was about 75 yards away from going into a gorge.

The first civilian to meet the plane was the town's mortician. They told him :"No business for you today."The players rode into the town in hearses.

Given that horror,Elgin probably figured that every day over the past 61 years was a bonus.

Played before my time. From people that watched him, was he one of those players that would be great today?

One of my first memories of the NBA was seeing a picture of him driving to the basket with the blue uniform and the script version of "Los Angeles" on the front.
Baylor, West and later Chamberlain were one of the original Big 3s. Unfortunately for them they played during the same time as that Celtic machine, a dynasty like the NBA will never see aagain.

R.I.P.

Great, great, great hooper. Terrific body control. Could hang in the air forever & contort his body in order to score. Excellent shooter & rebounder. RIP Elgin.

RIP. A great who was a pleasure to watch.
I remember when Baylor scored 63 points
against The Philadelphia Warriors and Chamberlain scored 78 for the Warriors. ( same game). Years
later they were team mates for L.A with West
but there was not good chemistry. Baylor
retired early in his last season. and the next day
LA went on 33 game winning streak. Chamberlain then went on to play in NBA championship games and one title.
