Are we going to be able to land an OT or 2, either HS or JC? Just read that the one from IWCC that was scheduled to visit this week crapped out and is visiting TX instead. Thx.

Austin visited a different JUCO I think. True OTs are extremely tough to find. IMO, we need to build them by getting kids who played TE in high school convinced that their best shot at playing is building themselves in to TEs. Lots of schools do that. Many of the kids playing OT in high school just aren't athletic enough to play OT at a power 5 school. It will be interesting to see if Frost sticks with the 6-5 or taller model for OTs.
I was looking at our roster and realized that we probably have some guys who can play OT in Frost's system who would have struggled in the WCO as OTs. Supposedly Frost's blocking schemes are much friendlier to O linemen specifically tackles. We'll see. This is one position I don't particularly want to see us reach for. We've got some young guys who can probably play there if we don't land a JUCO this cycle.

The IWCC tackle has been offered by florida tennessee and texas in the past few days. Decided to visit texas instead of us.
I'm not necessarily talking scholarship TEs but more walk on kids with good frames. I don't know of any right now on our roster but going forward I think we have to look at that to try to find kids athletic enough to play OT. I've seen it happen with several kids from my area. Somebody needs to tell some of the kids that are marginal TEs maybe speed wise that they have a lot better chance of getting to play in college and paid later on if they make a switch to OT. I think it was OSU's left tackle I watched run down the field against Wisconsin and it just took my breath away how that kid could move.
Ferentz at Iowa has been very successful at converting TE's into OT. He recruited a player a few years ago from a small Iowa HS (Denison) and turned him into the 5th pick in the 1st round (Scherff). Back in 2004 Robert Gallery was the 2nd pick in the 1st round. He was from a town in Iowa (Winthrop) that had a population of 850.
Riley Reiff from Parkston SD was the one that stuck in my craw. Callahan offered and got him to commit after he had been committed to Iowa. Iowa told him he could play either TE or DE and he re-committed to Iowa. For some reason, Callahan didn't pursue him all that hard once he had committed to us.
I think we are looking at Hamilton Hall (2/2/18 visit) and Jerome Carvin (Carvin used his officials already, so he will visit on his own dime).
Carlos Emanuel is a massive individual that plays for Kansas eight-man power, Hanover. Hanover is just south of the border and just south of Beatrice. I know Kansas State is the perceived a leader after offering him a PWO, but this is a kid, due to proximity, that Nebraska needs to be all over. I believe he has a 445 pound bench.
If the staff doesn’t already know about him, somebody needs to let them know. Since he’s only a few miles from the Nebraska border and within easy driving distance of Lincoln, he should be a no-brainer.

The advantage that Frost's offense has like many other option/zone read schemes whether they are under center or spread is that you do not have to block DT/DE on every single run play. If you option those players it allows your tackles to climb quickly to the next level or dbl team with the guard at the point of attack. One of our biggest down falls this year was our run game was terrible thus making us one dimensional on offense.
