This is a good one that I hadn't thought of. Another good one is Your Money or Your Life. Very good for getting people to think about the purpose of money and what's really going to make them happy. Might turn them into a worthless hippie though, so you gotta be careful who you give that one to.

LOL, good call guys. Haven't thought about Cross pens in awhile (if you were really special you got the pen AND pencil set). Must have had a half dozen or more over time. Several engraved items as well many years ago but never rated a letter opener. What was the mall store that sold all of that engraved stuff?

Had forgotten about that store. Can’t remember the name bc it’s probably been close to 30 years since I was in one.

Laugh if you will, but this is the truth. My grandparents lived in Ellisville and my Pappaw taught at JCJC for years. Good friends with JB Young, the former president. I saw Dr. Young every time I was in Ellisville growing up.

When I graduated from high school he gave me a small manicure set in a snap pouch. I have used it for going on 35 years, all the way through college and my adulthood. It's in my bathroom drawer right now. It is the single most practical, long-lasting, and essentially life-long physical gift I've ever been given.

I know it seems silly but I think of Dr. Young and JCJC every time I use those nail clippers. Decades after his death, I still think of him on a regular basis.

I certainly don't know the totality of the circumstances, but I'd be tempted to just give him a $25 check and be done with it.

If you are good friends with his parents and care about what they think, then bump that amount up to an appropriate level.

No, before. Dr. Young was the 2nd president of JCJC, from 1940 to 1970. I only knew him after he retired.
