I have seen several of the best picture nominees. I haven't seen Vice, Beale street, blackklansman, black panther or Roma ( Netflix- subtitles) yet. I loved green book. Its a true story and Jersey based but is controversial in that Shirley wasn't represented wells specifically that Shirley was misrepresented as too alienated from black culture and from his family. Also the tour lasted two years- the be home for Christmas ending is made up. Great acting by Mortenson and Ali. A fun buddy movie. I l loved " a star is born w Bradley Cooper and Gaga but sans perhaps best actor for Cooper ( will likely be beat by Malek playing Freddy Mercury or Christian Bale as Cheney) I think other movies were a tad better in every category so its possible the movie will win no Oscars .though its great. A must see.

To me both bohemian rhapsody and the favourite are a tad overrated. Bohemian rhapsody was very good w possible best actor malek but the movie really glosses over Mercurys life and bisexuality?-and leaves off 6 years before Mercurys death with the bands live aid ( I was at philly show 7/13/85) performance. There's actually talk of a sequel! The movie did well overseas so perhaps the golden globes ( foreign press) success. To me "the favourite" was analogous to a really bad porn. It was a well written and greatly acted (quite possible best actress for the queen and a tad less certain the handmaid and niece for best supporting). I really see most of you really NOT enjoying unless you are into English history/the aristocracy- and I had a classmate neighbor who was and probably loved. A weird picture- out of nowhere you'd be watching and all of a sudden depravity such as male anal s#x or groups of men throwing things at a naked man with a fig leaf covering his scrotum. I think I dreamt this nightmare homeless and cold at a campground in my tent the night after the Kansas game. The movie ends with the objective reached but then adds a totally weird scene ( you will never have pet bunnies after this movie) with the new " favourite" assumingly being put in place by the demented but still powerful Queen who forces? The niece to go down on her. Technically its " goes up" on her and its not graphic so it only confuses. However unlike the 80s porn "Caligula" (never saw) the queen ain't a Penthouse Pet ( the movie is like the worst ever Penthouse Letter though) so that may be a good thing. Stick with Queen the band save $15 and watch a good porn instead.

Another point about the Green Book, Shirley's brother said that he was not friends with Tony. So it is a fictional story:
Maurice Shirley, Don's brother, said, "My brother never considered Tony to be his "friend"; he was an employee, his chauffeur".

It is a true story with a lot of fictional elements. Ali called the family and apologized earlier this year. Personally I hate when this happens.

If you are a fan of Queen or even if not, bohemian rhapsody was very good and entertaining. I was in high school in the late 70's and besides Van Halen, Styx, Rush...Queen was one of my favorites. And even back then, they never seemed to get the attention they deserved. They were so far ahead of their time. But like FM or not- pure talent

I didn't like bohemian rhapsody only because it isn't the style of movie I like. Not a documentary but actors showing what he did more less. The actor playing him was very good though. I rather watch clips of the real Freddie Mercury. I am a fan of Queen's music.

Anybody see "Stan and Ollie," yet? I've seen a couple clips, and have read some solid reviews. I remember watching some (not many) of their movies, years and years ago (it's possible I never actually saw a movie, but saw some clips on an old PBS show -- I can't honestly recall). It looks like a fun, touching type of movie. In any event, if you've seen it, I'm curious for some opinions. Thx!

Another good movie is 'In Time'. Instead of exchanging money, they exchange time for things. Time to live. If you run out you die. And all the interesting things that can happen. It's really a good movie.

I don't know if it made another thread but Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes start shooting the next "Jay and Silent Bob movie in New Orleans next month.
