Jones had a great year in 75 and finished second that year. Lost to Tom Terrific.

I remembered when Jones was a Padre ,San Diego wasn't a good team, googled to make sure and found:

I remembered when Jones was a Padre ,San Diego wasn't a good team, googled to make sure and found:
>While Jones won the Padres' first Cy Young Award in 1976, the team only won 73 games that year, and in the year he finished second in the Cy Young voting (1975), they won 71 games. <

In those two seasons he won 42 games, threw 43 complete games with 11 shut outs. He also threw over 600 innings during that time span.
In one game Pete Rose batted left handed against him. When asked why Pete said I can't hit him righty so I thought I'd try the other side.

I remember when he played for the Mets for a season I believe back in the dark days !

75 and 76 he was one of the best pitchers in baseball.
Now a days with all the emphasis on strikeouts over that two year span he won 42 games but had only 196 Ks in 600 innings
