OT : Question on Windows 10 issue.

Friend of mine has an issue where he is trying to plug a USB key in with music he's recording, but the OS isn't even acknowledging that something has been plugged in. It doesn't come up as a drive, he doesn't get anything from the OS indicating new hardware is available. Any ideas on what he can try?

Any chance he has another computer to test the USB key. The key may be bad itself. I've seen in happen.

If the key is good it is most likely a driver issue with win 10. You can try shutting down the machine and then pulling the plug (yes unplug from the wall). Let the machine sit for 5 mins and then power it back up and try the key. This should cause the machine to recognized the device and try to install the driver. if you still have issues you can try and go into device manager > expand the USB controller section > right click the Unknown USB device and say update driver.

You can also go into device manager and select view>show hidden devices and uninstall the usb stick in case a driver was loaded but it's not responding. Then re-insert the usb stick and see if that works.

You can just try a different usb port. That normally does it.
