Anyone got a decent recommendation for a basic printer? With kids homeschooling for the foreseeable future, we need to print some stuff off.

I've had crappy luck with printers in the past. They last through a couple of sets of ink cartridges and then seem to crap out - even when I'm paying an arm & leg for the name brand ink. Don't need anything fancy - I assume the most basic would do for printing schoolwork.

I used HP for about 6 years. Hated it everyday I used it. Bought a Brother. Wish I had an HP now.

I have used HP in the past but their software has become more than troublesome at home and at the office. Few years ago I switched to cannon and have been more than happy. There is a ton of third party inks on Amazon but they will clog your printer head if you do not use it on a regular basis. I fried my last cannon printer's head trying to cleaning it before I knew the proper technique. Granted that printer was about 8 years old and survived a few long distance moves. Below is the current printer I have at the house and it has been a quality machine so far. There are other models in this series that don't have bells and whistles.

I have an HP and it's been fine. However, I don't like that you can't print in black and white with low color cartridges.

There are some youtube videos saying you can reset the printer calibration to override it. Tried that and ended up just ordering new color cartridges anyway.

We use this at our house. Bought it at Christmas for $25.

HP now offers a per page printing option (don't have to pay for ink). We pay $3/month for up to 50 pages. It's $5 for 100 pages. So you could spend $36/year for ink. HP sends you new cartridge when your ink goes low. My wife works from home so she has to print occasionally. I love this option better than having to buy printer cartridges after they dry out from never being used.

I bought HP only because I have a HP laptop, and wanted to avoid the old finger pointing in case something went wrong. I only use about 10% of my printer's capability - it was absolutely hell to set up.

Using a Brother

MFC7420, an older laser jet that does all I need. A do all. No color.

Hated dealing with and buying ink jet cartridges. Not sure I print enough to do that.

(Was able to hookup drivers with a new PC via internet and Windows 10,... did not need the CD's)

I have a an HP 8710. I think they have a newer version of it now but I like it. You can scan copy and fax and the app is great for scanning and faxing from your phone.

I simply typed the words Ink Jet in this thread today.

Now, I can't get away from the offers, (adds) mostly on this board.

(not an everyday search/word from me)
