TBH, I don't vacuum my pool, pretty much ever.

I collect debris (leaves, bugs, twigs, etc) with the leave net. Then I brush the walls and bottom with the brush attachment, pushing everything toward the main drain. It takes less time to do it that way than to dick around with any kind of vacuum device.

I get away with that through most of the summer but as leaves start to fall I can't. I leave my pool open until Oct because I like to run the waterfall while watching football outside.

gonna throw out another option for you

I had a polaris cleaning machine for a long time.... it would sometimes get stuck under my ladder and I was never totally happy with the job it did, sometimes not covering parts of the pool, the tail would stir up dirt instead of cleaning it up

about 10 years ago I bought a pool blaster, a hand held electric broom for the pool..... during the season I would use it to for about 15 minutes, including cleaning it, and able to get right to what needs to be cleaned.....

this is for touch up cleaning, not the opening of the pool, if you have a mesh cover..... I would vacuum to waste twice early on, then use this the rest of the season.

I would recommend it if one understands how to use...the model I have is the Max CG (commercial grade)...which is a bit stronger than the lower cost models.

this skims the water surface, does it clean the bottom....could not tell from the pics
No just the top, but since most of the debris that ends up on the bottom originates on the surface, it works great, and runs continuosly.

What could possibly go wrong with this setup?

for me, not much.....I have been using this instead of the Polaris for about 10 years, without problems.... as I said I prefer it because I can hit an area that needs it and not wait for a robotic to eventually cover an area, if it does it at all

I use a service. Tony's good. Comes once a week. People back east don't use services like this very often it seems. How come, not many of them?

I couldn't live without my Dolphin which I run about once a week along with a pool blaster for touch ups.
Why would anyone pay $$$ for a pool service? For most pools, just monitor chlorine, pH, and cyranuric acid levels and you're good.

Because you have to do that stuff and buy the products. My pool here costs me $80/month and he does the fountains in front of my house too.

I feel like those services back east are a lot more though. If they aren't, why not outsource it is a better question.

I think maybe because you get to use your stuff the whole year where around here there is a window to pool and fountain season.

Parents place in Naples has pool service for I guess the same reason .

Few reasons. One my old guy was a crackhead and I got tired of dealing with him. Two, my kids are old enough to take care of it and it's their "job"

That's a very good rate, especially if it includes chemicals...and well below services in NJ. I take care of my pool at about $90/month.

I've used a Kreepy Krauly for 16 years now and it still works fairly well. I've had to replace a few parts on it over the years. What's nice about it is that it has only one moving part and that never wears out.

That's the same as I pay. Well worth it considering the hassle it can be keeping the chemistry correct in FL. Pool can turn green real quick here!
