Cantlay was really good yesterday. I thought Schauffele would make a run but he just couldn't get anything going on the back 9.

In LIV news, seems like Pat Perez has now taken his name off the anti-trust lawsuit against the PGA saying that in hindsight it was a bad decision and that he doesn't want to be involved in legal battles against guys he likes and a tour that gave him a chance to play golf for a living. Ortiz dropped out weeks ago. Now there are 9 left suing the tour.
I think Pat Perez’s contract has a draw component (winnings are offset to the guaranteed). He doesn’t want this to get out to save face.

What are the odds that LIV gets a tv contract for next season? That would be a tipping point for them, since both groups will be playing in the same tv time slots. And LIV will have name recognition with golf fans.

Unlikely. The most recent report was Kushner was poking around Paramount to make an introduction to get LIV on the streaming platform but it might be too soon for anyone to make that jump. But the COO of LIV did admit that they eventually need some sort of legit broadcast/streaming deal..........

It is smart for a guy like Pat Perez to not sue the PGA. With LIV only being 48, he will be on the outside at some point. He needs a place to play.

So? Does more money make the product less fake than the BMW, for example? Of course not. If the BMW is "fake" then so is LIV.
What about what Tiger and Rory are proposing??? Literally the same as the LIV with less money and add in they are screwing all the players not in the top 50/60 on the Tour!!. It's a mess. The PGA Tour actions or inactions opened the door to a complete mess. And having a meeting at the start of the BMV. More talk of the meeting then the tournament itself. There was room for the LIV without hurting the tour. They went down the wrong road. None of it is interesting. Millionaires greedy for more money doesn't help the game or excitement. Screw them all. Especially the Tour commissioner who f-ed something simple up.

What about it? I am not advocating for what they are proposing.

All I am saying is you called the playoffs and the BMW fake and that the players only care about the money. Well that's LIV golf. So is LIV golf "fake" too?

Sorry it did feel fake. Why are your panties in a bunch? 1st playoff was boring. This one had small crowds for whatever reason. The big names were more involved in the meetings. It wasn't good TV. And I love golf. But there certainly been damage to the tour. I never compared it to LIV, you did. Yes LIV is fake too. You and @jtung230 somehow equate my criticism of the PGA Tour as support of the LIV. That is a stupid assumption by both of you. Haven't watched a second of it. No idea when the next one is. What I do know that the PGA grossly mishandled this whole thing. It is ruining the tour.

I think there is a place for exhibition matches. I enjoyed The Match. It’s a fun one-off side show. It can’t replace the PGA tour. Competition is what makes sports fun.

My panties are not in a bunch. You made this comment about BMW being fake and only about the players making big money but have defended LIV here in this thread. I thought it was funny considering what you accused the BMW of being is exactly what happens with LIV.

So?? They both are. What the hell is your point? I've never defended the LIV. Never said the LIV wasn't a money grab.

Will it always be 48? If ten PGA guys come over today, does LIV just drop the bottom ten? Do the dropped players keep the money the received from LIV?

I think the LIV field will be set at 54 (which is LIV via roman numerals). Hard to have any more with their shotgun start.

Monahan just announced in addition to the announcement in June/July there will be 4 add'l tourneys with a $20 million purse. It was only a brief vid but seems like players need to commit to 15 tourneys, 12 specific and 3 at the players discretion. The 15 doesn't include majors. Not sure where the Players fits so it's 19 or 20 a year. Also something about a $500k stipend.

PGA flopping around like a fish out of water. Can't believe they didn't plan for LIV and be proactive.

Wouldn't call it flooping. Nothing I've heard or read believes LIV has a good chance of winning the anti-trust case. If they lose and don't get a TV contract for their exhibitions, what then?

All they've done is make the Tour a lot more profitable for players 1-154. Winners will now get $3.6 million for winning more than half of the Tour events and filter down from there.

Did we talk about the leaked list of attendees at the Woods meeting last week. Per reports, most of the Top 20 were in attendance as well as some others. There were a couple of interesting names there that people thought might jump to LIV - Fowler, Scott and Hovland. Scott was interesting because he was linked as part of this "Australian" team that would jump to LIV. He apparently is also fairly close to Norman so could he have been a spy to report back to Norman what they were talking about? Let me set my tin foil hat down.

Not in attendance? Cam Smith and Hideki Matsuyama, two names where there is a ton of smoke around them joining LIV. Other reports say 7 names are about to jump and all 7 started in the Fed Ex playoffs. Smith and Matsuyama seem almost a given at this point.

Looks like the PGA is going to try and show what the LIV expects from those that take their signing bonuses .

What might be found true or false is alleged terms like these I found in another article
that has a link in the one I posted in this reply
A draft contract has been leaked, revealing some fascinating details. :
  • Players are supposed to wear LIV apparel, even when playing in non-LIV events
  • Players are instructed to refrain from giving interviews without approval
  • Players agree to assist in recruiting other players to LIV, when requested
  • Players need approval for most of the logos they wear and branded products, such as coffee mugs that they use at events

Interesting considering LIV was sold as the tour that gives players more freedom. Mickelson complained about the PGA Tour controlling his media rights and Ian Poulter did the same last week complaining about issues with the DP Tour and media rights.

But it turns out, LIV is as, if not more, restrictive than the PGA when it comes to certain media rights.

At the end of the day, I think what LIV wants to hide, however, are the financial arrangements. It will be interesting to see what the judge rules in the PGAs request to unseal contracts.

I don’t necessarily think Hideki is a given. The meeting was strictly ‘players only’ with no coaches, trainers, agents etc allowed in the room. Hideki doesn’t speak English so it’s unknown if he declined an invite, wasnt asked to attend, or couldn’t attend because having the translator in the room would be considered a no no to the ‘players only‘ stipulation.

I think LIV can get him if they promise to bring it to Japan. Don’t see $ as a factor.

LIV is global. The fading PGA tour is not.
PGA is adjusting the way its tours are making it more player friendly.
Could be with the LIV as a threat, the PGA is responding in a way that will be making itself stronger.
Don't expect the LIV to fade away but it might receive some bad PR if the contracts with its players are revealed and what has been claimed in them prove true.
But that won't kill the tour, just make it pay multi million and more signing bonuses for a longer time and probably removes some of the restrictions put on those that sign .

If the PGA did all these things earlier and took care of their players, the LIV wouldn't exist now.

Not true. no One is leaving the Tour because of the PGATour economics. They are leaving because Norman and The Saudis have an unlimited budget to buy players. Norman thinks he invented professional golf, but the real money came when Tiger came on the scene.

I’m sorry, but you are wrong. Norman had a problem with the tour and tried this in the early 90s and was shot down yet his ideas were adopted by the tour. Now he’s backed by money and it’s happening again. The PGA has been frugal and tried to own independent contractors. Regardless of where the $ came from the competition of LIV is ok and is now reshaping the tour. Just like Phil said…who was cancelled prematurely.

The PGA has no standing to see what the competition tour contracts are. It's none of their business. Because the PGA kicked these players out they no longer have any right to see what their former players signed. The PGA moves from day 1 are beyond bizarre.

Can't say if you're right or wrong about standing claim, but that's part of the PGA's reply to the lawsuit that some of the LIV tour players filed against the PGA.
The PGA's reason is the LIV players filed the" PGA Tour’s player handbook and regulations on the court’s public docket as part of their complaint, and the Tour has not sought to redact or otherwise seal the material".
So if their rules and regulations are part of the lawsuite, the PG wants the LIV's restrictions shown as well.

So a company can sue another business for their contracts if they hire a former 1099 employee?? What???? The PGA has no rights to another business contracts.

In general, probably not. But this isn't a typical 1099 employee suit.

Further, the LIV golfers who sued entered into evidence as part of their suit, internal PGA documents, player handbooks, by laws, etc. The PGA Tour's claim is if LIV did that and are suing on the grounds that they are being harmed by how the PGA Tour operates, then it's only fair that LIV's contracts and by laws are also now available. The LIV golfers suit is predicated on this notion of irreparable harm from being blocked from the PGA but as we found out in the injunction hearing a few weeks ago, it appears LIV contracts actually compensate based on the expectation of lost PGA income.

Mickelson is kind of full of **** himself though. He jumped because of the cash, that's it. He tried to sell it as he made the move, in part, because the PGA was too restrictive and hurting his ability to market himself, etc. He complained about the media access players had, how they didn't have rights in terms of using PGA footage for themselves, etc.

But then we have come to find out that LIV contracts might be even more restrictive in areas Mickelson was whining about. It appears that Mickelson has a price where those issues he had with the PGA won't bother him on LIV.

Lots of inaccuracies in that but don't care to have a long discussion. We can debate all we want. We have no say in the matter.

What inaccuracies? Have LIV golfers not filed suit and as part of that suit introduced unredacted PGA player by laws, handbooks, etc?

Are the PGA Tour attorneys not making the claim the court should unseal LIV contracts and their regulations making the argument that if LIV introduced PGA by laws and rules and other documentation, LIV should be made to show the same as well?

Didn't the judge in the Fed Ex playoffs injunction basically claim that the idea of harm seems specious given that LIV contracts were based on a calcuation of what they might be leaving behind on the Tour?

So what is inaccurate here?
