This may be the end of Phil on the PGA Tour. He is now a Saudi League player.
In my view, Phil would win back the court of public opinion if he stated that he’s earned a lot of money in his PGA career but, due to poor choices, lost a lot as well. That’s driven him to make a tough choice at this stage in his career to earn as much as he can, and the Saudi league affords that opportunity. He admires the PGA, but like many people and families, is doing the best for him and his family.

I would expect there will be some that are big names but skills are deteriorating because of age will look at the saudi option as a way to stay in the money as the younger PGA tour members overtake them in tour standings..Knocking their earnings down from what it was in their prime..
The Saudis get a name brand, the name brand stays relevant when it comes to the earnings made playing professional golf and in the eyes of the public.

Funny thing is this false perception that he has to give interviews at the PGA. Tiger, Sergio etc have never been forced to talk to media.

Worst case for Phil is now he burns himself for the Senior PGA Tour as well. He could have cleaned up there. I hope the Saudi $ makes him happy. Legacy ruined.
There is no requirement by any PGA event to be forced to meet the media. Tiger has skip them after his many issues. Daly, Sergio etc
No **** there is no requirement. What’s Phil’s requirement to play in a PGA tour event after public ally blasting them? Do you know if the PGA of America is honoring Monaghan’s wishes if Phil were to play in the PGA Championship.
Phil doesn’t want to face the press which is required if he wants to play in another PGA tour event and the PGA of America is honoring that requirement.

Someone’s hit the bottle a little early today. Who cares what Jack or any other former pro thinks about this. Jack only cares about his family, business and legacy. He’s got too much class to get involved in this.
Current rumor is that Phil received 30M from the Saudi group when he signed up to play the full 8 tourney schedule. That is 4M to show up at each tournament before winnings are added. And he can win every tourney they play, so this is a windfall for him.

I'll ask you the reverse question. What was not an honest answer? The facts are the world of sports takes billions from China, Saudis and the UAE. Why now is Phil the sole whipping boy on this issue? Premier League, European Tour, NBA etc has been going on for decades.

Yes, I’m sure players have played in Saudi sponsored tournaments. They didn’t, however, run into a partnership with them to stick it to an organization. Phil is, though. He said it, greedy SOB. None of the others did. Had they made similar comments, I’d bet they would have received a similar reaction.
And 50 other top American golfers were ready to do this too…
every single rich person is a greedy SOB.
If all of these others rose up and made a statement like Phil did, they’d likely have the same response,. Is it laudable that others partner with them? No. But no Sponsor is going to sever ties for one tournament. When you state, , “I know how bad these dudes are, but I’m such a greedy SOB I’m going to abandon my prior career and partner with them anyway!” Different story.
Shoot, other players are joining Phil. Garcia. Westwood. Haven’t read about their sponsors cutting ties, But they didn’t say what Phil did, either.

Phil is the whipping boy because he wanted it. He was the most vocal and critical of the PGA Tour. Remember Phil calling the PGA Tour obnoxious greedy? LMAO. This is why he is the whipping boy.
A reasonable question. I don't have an answer other than, money. As for Phil, his comments were absurdly dumb, about as bad a LeBron criticizing Morey over Morey's China commentary.
