Good questions by the Shark:

“Look, if they want to look at it in prism, then why does the PGA Tour have 23 sponsors within the PGA Tour doing 40-plus billion dollars worth of business with Saudi Arabia? Why is it OK for the sponsors? Why is it OK … that there’s a Saudi sponsor, Aramco, the largest sponsor of women’s golf in the world? Why is it OK for them? Why is it not OK for these players? Will [PGA Tour commissioner] Jay Monahan go to each and every one of those CEOs of the 23 companies that are investing into Saudi Arabia and suspend them and ban them? … The hypocrisy in all this, it’s so loud. It’s deafening.”

Another player jumping:
He will probably double his professional wins real soon playing on LIV. Only needs 1 more.

Totally disagree they are after the PGA. The DP Tour is their target. Sounds like they are both negotiating.

Depends on who you are listening to. There are other reports out there that the DP Tour is working with the PGA Tour. And if that reporting is true, that the Scottish Open is basically shutting out LIV golfers, then that's a sign the DP is working with the PGA and not LIV.

But again, haven't been able to get confirmation on the Scottish Open thing other than the original article I read.

The disintction being those sponsors do business in Saudi Arabia, selling products to Saudi Arabians. They are simply selling to an international market.

On the other hand, the LIV Golf Tour is largely funded not by Saudi companies but rather a fund controlled by the Crown Prince and family, who are notorious human rights' violators. Some may buy the distinction, some may not.

Now Aramco, there's the issue. They are a "public" company but I believe the family has large ownership stakes in the company (although I swear I read they sold a small portion for like $20 billion recently).

Many articles stating the LIV members out of the Scottish Open since its co-sponsored by the PGA and DT.

LOL……just stick to you dollar cost avg on the stock and investments thread. PGA would love to have Saudi money as a sponsor. They just don’t want them as a competitor. Duh…..

Now reports are Koepka has bounced and will play the next tournament in Portland. He's a big name but hardly surprising. I wonder if there are a couple more dominos to fall this week.

I never believed the reports of Koepka bolting for the LIV. I think some dumb reporter confused him with his brother. Guess I was wrong.

I also saw rumors of Collin Morikawa as well. That would be a bigger deal. Both Morikawa and Koepka had no mention of PGA on their Twitter bios this AM.

Koepka makes more sense than most. He's been pretty clear that he doesn't like playing in the smaller tournament and only cares about the majors. He doesn't even seem to like the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup.

LIV gives him what he wants - way less tournaments to play in, more money, for now he can still compete for majors and he doesn't have to play in the Ryder or President's Cup. I always figured if LIV peeled off a big American name, Koepka would be that guy.

Morikawa bolting, if that come to fruitition, would be a massive blow to the PGA and really set this entire thing on fire. I fear what you are going to end up with is something that I read in an article. That what professional golf ends up being is like the Indy and CART series. They just ended up watering down each other's product.

Morikawa highlights the other big issue with the PGA tour.....barely any global events. The PGA tour is essentially a US tour. Some golfers want to play and travel the world. If Morikawa jumps, it's mostly due to this reasons (based on past interviews).

Been saying this from day 1. Let the players go play a few just like they play in DP tour events every year. Keep the 15 minimum and ignore the rest.
+1
If the PGA tour is truly the best (which it is), act like it. Set the minimum and let the players figure it out for themselves.

Here is the PGA Tour dilemma.
  1. To drive revenues they have squeezed the hell out of the sponsors, almost to he extent that its really not a wise advertising investment for the sponsors but this drove player purses.
  2. TV ratings are driven by the top players. This is undisputable and something that Tiger proved which became an issue for the PGA Tour development people. Sponsors will not pay unless the best players play which happens less with LIV.
  3. If you allow the top players to play less then the revenue model falls apart unless you have a Sheik funding you.
The PGA tour has three options. Kill LIV, take a fall back position and run 20 Greensboro opens a year or become like LIV and run 8 big tourneys a year. Because of the revenue model the PGA is dead as we know it if LIV continues to gain momentum.

Plus the reception Phil received at the US Open has helped others think it will be fine to switch. The general public doesn't care where they play.

I don't think fans generally care about this stuff............ yet.

But if this turns out to be nothing more than a cash grab for these guys on a tour that has limited viewing options, at some point, if there are still a lot of the main guys on the PGA Tour, you'll see people lose interest in guys like Mickelson, DJ, etc.

There is a newness factor here, a curiousity factor. But let's say we are 12 months from now and it's still basically DJ and Koepka and Mickelson banging around in the desert and on Trump's courses, I think fan interest in them is gonna just kind of flatline.

The question is do you really think Koepka is the last big name to make the jump? I certainly don't.
Of the 8 venues only one 1 in Saudi Arabia.

At this point who knows. All the main guys have pledged loyalty to the Tour - Thomas, Speith, Rahm, Morikawa, McIlroy, Scheffler, etc.

But I do agree that if one big name who has pledged loyalty flips, that could open the floodgates.

A fall series? Ehhh…gonna be overshadowed by football. Not gonna wok, imo.

PGA needs to cut back on these spring and summer tourneys and have bigger ones in its place. That’s it.

They'll lose revenue.

It's easy for the LIV tour to do what they are doing because they have a sugardaddy who willing to just throw money at a tour with no return at this point. The PGA Tour can't operate like that.

lol of course...that's called "****, we ****ed up, SCRAMBLE!!!"
Maybe they planned well. Rumors they are sitting on close to a billion in reserves.

they just matched the LIV purse, the number of LIV events, you keep your sponsors and get to play majors.

next move is LIV’s

Solves some of the money issues but on the flipside, it doesn't solve the less playing golf thing.

Lose revenue? Doubt it. I think it shows the PGA makes a lot more then the have announced they do. A big complaint by the players.
Overhaul I think it's a bad move. What 7 events will they cancel to have this ? There is only 1 open week on their schedule.

It's not really way less tournaments though -- next season it's a 15 tournament season + 4 majors and I'd assume they want these guys playing in all 15 of the tournaments for the amount of money they're shelling out
