Need some help, guys. My mother-in-law has serious issues with her lower back and hip. She went to a neurosurgeon at Vanderbilt today and he told her that before he can do anything to her back she has to have her hip replaced. She has been to a doctor in Jackson a number of times for hip problems and has been told that her hip “wasn’t that bad”. She gets to Nashville today and is told otherwise. I know that she has 2 ruptured disks in her back and I feel so bad watching her trying to get around. She is caring for my 93 year-old father in law who is home under hospice care and she can barely take care of him. It’s a situation that breaks my heart-getting old is a tough deal.

I am asking if any of you know of a reputable orthopedic surgeon in the Jackson area who she might be referred to. They live in Rolling Fork and Jackson is where they usually go if they need a specialist. I just don’t believe that the ortho she has seen in Jackson is right about the hip. Her daughter (from her first marriage) is a nurse practitioner and I’m sure she got the referral to see the orthopedic in Jackson in the first place. I’m just really concerned that if she doesn’t get some help that she will end up in a wheelchair. Thank you for any information that you can give me in advance!

You may want to check out Capitol Ortho in Flowood. Dr. Kennedy has replaced both of my mom's knees. Dr. Dulske has performed a couple of shoulder surgeries on my dad. Both were very happy with the results.

Who is the *** hole that was suing everybody over the jokes they made after he trashed Jeffrey Simmons on Twitter. I bet he has a wonderful bedside manner.

Sorry, I'm no help on the OP question, but I do wonder if there's an age threshold where joint replacements become not recommended. Anyone know?

I, my wife, my Mom, and my Dad have all had surgery at Capital Ortho in Flowood and we have all been very pleased. I had both knees done and plates put in my forearm 3 times from motocross racing, my wife had her ankle, my Mom has had a knee, hand, and a shoulder done. My Dad had both knees and one hip done and is going to have the other hip done. We have used Drs Kennedy, Hendrix, and both McCraneys, (dad is retired now).

I haven’t had to have a hip replacement but myself and my dad both use capitol ortho. I used kniep for my knees and dad used mcraney and he had the same type experiences I had and they have how to run a clinic down pat. If I had a 12:00 appt I had to be there at 11:30 because then folks walk in your room on the appt time

I’ve used Dr Kneip. He is outstanding. The entire experience at Capital Ortho was great.

Another good thing about Capital Ortho is that the rehab clinic is in the same building and while you're doing therapy, if you or your therapist have any questions or concerns, he can call the Dr. over. My Drs. came over a couple of times just to check on how I was doing at rehab.

The old lady has recently had shoulder and ACL surgery at MS Sports Med in Flowood. It has gone well both times. Nice facility, the inside seems much bigger that it looks from the outside. Parking can be sparse though.
