From what I understand those 3 especially are beautiful yet very scary when you're looking at the green.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I had no real idea on 8. Hard to see where you are going off the tee box. But after seeing it open, 9 and 10 are beasts. Throw in greens the size of a match box and wind coming off of the Pacific, it's all very intimidating. I didn't realize those holes were so challenging until my scratch buddy gave me a compliment after playing them, which he never does. I hit some great shots at a the right time. Missed some putts though. Would have been nice to par at least one of them. Only downside of that place is it is public. Rounds take a good 5 hours. Lots of hitting and waiting.

How was the 4th at Spyglass? Buddy of mine said that was one of the hardest greens to hit that he's ever played.

Totally agree. It's ridiculous. It's like ten feet at it's widest and long. Sort of peanut shaped. Spyglass was great but I liked Pebble much more. My buddies are playing Cypress today. Sadly I had to get home for some work stuff. Very sad to miss that one.

Get this... a friend of mine was given a gift by his employer for 25 years of working there, that was a trip to California to stay at Pebble and play there and I think Spyglass and Spanish Bay.

He never used the trip......... because his wife doesn't golf.

I heard this story about 5 years after the fact. I've never been able to look at the two of them the same.

Man, what a waste. Even if you don't golf, it's a beautiful place. Carmel is incredible. If anyone goes, definitely go to Flying Fish for dinner. I am trying to remember a better spot and I just can't. That place is unreal.

No kidding... I have an uncle that lives in Carmel, and is a member at Monterey Peninsula. Last time I went to CA, I told him I was coming and hoped to play with him. Unfortunately it was the Car show week and he clears out of town. I ended up playing at Pasatiempo, which was fantastic.
Can't remember the course (WildHorse? Crazy Horse? Something like that.) but I called to make tee times since they had 2 courses. I was told they were closed because there would be 100 red Ferraris on the first fairway. I told them I rarely hit the first fairway, so they'd be safe...

Almost 2 59's today. Scottie Sheffler with the first and then DJ went on a roll early but just missed a putt on 17 I believe for a 60. DJ leads by 2 going into the weekend.

Good luck tomorrow! Just play old man golf. Chip and putt lights out. I used to play with an older friend. Was a short hitter but would break 80 all the time.

If that kid just join your club, I know him. You would never expect him to hit it that far by looking at him. He was a baseball player in college and didn’t play golf until after baseball.

Played Liberty National on Thursday. It’s a beautiful place. You just can’t beat the views. Love the grass range with music playing over speakers. Bonus points for hiding the speakers and playing Weezer. I also like the space ship club house. So tired of everyone trying to copy St Andrew.

Not sure who you are talking about jtung?
The kids I’m talking about are members kids.
One of them played a little QB at Colgate, his length is ridiculous and plays to a 2 handicap

Missed the age part. Have a client that just moved to Montclair and joined the club. He played ball at Hopkins. Think he is in his early 30s and plays to a +2 handicap. His name is Drew.

Back in NJSP we used to play courses all over NJ with showing the badge, especially on Mondays.

On Forsgate and my buddy hits a GIANT hook. Over the trees, over the next fairway, over those trees and into the rough on the left on the 3rd different fairway.
IIRC we on 7, he flew 8 and went over into 9 far rough.

Later that year I was working as a Key Grip in NYC on my off days. We were doing a commercial for Lanier business systems and Arnold Palmer was their spokesperson. He flew in that day on his jet from designing a course in China to do his spiel for their copy machine.

One take, he had it perfect and he's having makeup removed. I had bought a Leroy Neiman print of Arnie somewhere. (it escapes me where) with me. Went up to him and described my Trooper buddy that loved Arnie and that big hook.

He smiles, grabs a magic marker and inscribes the Neiman print on the margin;
" Johnny boy, watch the hook !, Arnold Palmer " (and he added the umbrella trademark). I had it framed and gave it to Johnny boy (zappa will know who I mean .)>

Baseball skills really transfer for golf. I know 4 former college baseball players and they can all hit the crap out of the ball.

Check out DJ hitting a driver lefty: 294 carry 311 total LEFTY!!!!!!!1

I love Jason Day's reaction at 19/20 second mark. Like FU man. He hits it further than many pros as a lefty.

Was going to post this. My buddy who is a +3 played with him in Idaho a couple of years ago. DJ played the whole round left handed. Shot even par. That guy has crazy talent.

One of these years I feel it will be DJ's year as in multiple majors.

DJ wins by 11!!!!!!!!!!! Should have played lefty, maybe the others would have had a chance.

BTW, he absolutely destroyed the field.

First time I played Pebble was in 1994.

The guy in the pro shop told us that the most sold item in the shop was those cardboard disposable cameras. This was before everyone had a camera on their phone and people didn't think to bring a camera to the golf course.

When they got there and realized how beautiful it really is they wanted pictures to take home

So does hockey. The hockey guys I know who play absolutely rip the ball.

this...hockey translates way better than baseball...in fact most baseball players I know arent very good, some are good, but very few are elite.

hockey players are more effortless and elite when it comes to golf...the slapshot motion translates way better to the golf swing

(in my experience anyway)

I play with a guy who was in the NHL for a number of years and played for team Canada. He doesn't even carry a driver. Just drops his ball on the tee box and rips his 3 wood 285-300.

I play with a couple guys who are in the NHL as well. They are good players and pound it.

Hockey season doesn't conflict with golf season.
It does if you live in Ca. Golf season is every season. My whole golf existence out here. I can’t imagine needing to shut it down for months at a time.

Had our 2 day net Championships last weekend. Since we can't have lunch or gather for beers after, the golf committee gave away free drink coupons. 120 players. Great fun until we found out one of the cart girls has Covid!!

Tee times may be a lot easier to come by for a few weeks.
