They were talking about the Laettner shot this morning...That has to be the most overplayed and hyped "moment" in sports history. They threw it deep for a fairly easy mid-range shot, between two non-rivals at the time, in a game that wan't for a title or a chance at the title, with one of Duke's best teams of all time against a Kentucky team coming off a ban.
I've seen about a dozen better finishes since then.. but you know.. ESPN and Duke..

They’ll probably just replay the Nov 6th game and have the song continuously play until it’s over.
Unfortunately we’ll probably be in it in a negative light that being the Auburn guards running circles around us.

Worse thing ever produced for TV. Hate the song! Hate the montage of video clips. Hate everything about it. Makes my skin crawl. As soon as the final horn goes off so does my TV.

That's fine...even though you couldn't name the UCONN player. You significantly downplayed how big that game was...Duke in contention for back to back titles...Blueblood Kentucky returning to the national stage with a quartet of seniors that fans loved...one of the best and most accomplished college players of alltime hitting a game winning shot to advance to the final four. Back and forth game that is considered to be the best ever. Yes the game involved a chance to win a title. Also...got 10 more finishes that are better..
As much as I want to agree with you Ski I just cant.
Game was for a trip to the FF(at the time UK was in an 8 year FF dry spell) UK had just gone ahead on a banked in miracle floater by Woods over of all people 6’11 Laettner. only 2 tics remained and Duke had to go full length of the court. Duke was defending champions who had been #1 all season and UK had a bunch of local guys and Mashburn. It would have been the biggest win in UK history, even til this day and UK probably goes on to win it all but it just wasnt meant to be because Pimptino wouldnt put anyone on the ball!!!
I cried for two weeks straight after the shot and I was 25 years old.
That said and to me because of everything written above and the fact that Duke would go on to repeat as NCAA Champs, its the most iconic play in NCAAT history.

It's actually quite easy.. one of the only recognizable names on Uconn in the last 5 years.. Jalen Adams.
But, to your credit, I get that not many people will know who he was. It was, after all, a game that was in the AAC and not even in the NCAAT yet. But was that a more improbable wild finish? 100%.
The Shot was big because the media made it bit. Villanova's Jenkins shot has every reason to be a bigger shot.. if they would let it. But they won't.
Imagine if Duke made THAT shot to beat Kentucky (or UNC) in the title game.
I just think it's crazy that you don't even HEAR about the Villanova prayer 3, after UNC's own crazy 3pointer, to UPSET UNC, in the title game no less.
That is the perfect type of play to usher in a new "can you believe it?" type of moment. But ESPN and Coach K would rather keep running film from nearly 30 years ago. Hell, it doesn't even have to take over the 92 shot.. but jesus, they act like there's never been any big shots made since then..

You are mostly correct. but that was an epic game to watch if you were not a fan of either team
I saw one for us. Even though we were 1 of 8 teams left. Wofford had more than us and of course, Dook had 8 or more. LMFAO. They even showed the E8 games with to the FF and left us out. Typical.

I just counted 12 for Duke and 1 for UK (might have been a 2nd for UK, it was in a fast montage). I think Duke had more than Texas Tech.
