OT: Omaha Steaks

I have begun buying all my steaks from a local meat market butcher shop. It is more, but there is definitely a difference in quality which I am willing to pay for occasionally. I'd rather have 1 really good steak than 2 bad ones.
10-4, got an advertisement in another package - looked it over and thought I’d ask the pack. Glad I did.
Grand Western is a great place to order real steaks if you aren’t finding what you’re looking for at your butcher. Good stuff.

The Kroger here in Tupelo has started selling "Prime" cuts of ribeyes and they're great. Pricey, but great.
If you're wanting to purchase premium beef (dry aged, waygu, etc.) and you don't have a good local option, look at Snake River Farms and Creek Stone Farms. Both ship anywhere in the United States. It will cost you, but you're getting really good stuff.
If you're passing through the West Point area, check out Farmhouse Market & Coffee. It's on the corner of Eshman and Churchill Road. Coming from 45, you'd turn east at the light that's just south of Gary's Pawn and Gun and just north of the Mossy Oak outlet store. It's a neat, locally-sourced place.
If you're in Tupelo, check out Neon Pig. It's on North Gloster in a strip of shops. Craft beer, locally-sourced meat and groceries, plus restaurant seating. Here's a video about Neon Pig that was done after they won a Best Burger in America contest. Pretty good explanation of what they do. The owner/founder is a creative restauranteur with some other neat places in town, too.

It seems that the consensus is that if you want higher quality, you have to pay more money.

if you REALLY want to step out and impress.......the only mail order I would use but for obvious reasons only for VERY special occasions.

Who can afford that when you've already got your doublewide mortgaged three times? Simply purchase whatever Piggly Wiggly has in the markdown section, soak in 4 parts Dales 3 parts eyetalian dressin 5 parts salt for 24-96 hours, grill past well-done, plate with Hunts ketchup.
Yea, I'm skeptical of whether their steaks are really better than you get at a high end restaurant with good steaks. Outside of dry aged meat, there seems to be a quality where steaks just top out. Maybe I've just been to the wrong places, but I haven't been able to tell the difference between the $40 steaks I've had and the $80 steaks I've had. With the exception that the dry aged steak I've had is significantly better, and I haven't had many of them so I'm not sure how much better they get.
Me and madwoman have tried both Omaha and KC Steaks. We tried the American kobe from KC Steaks and were underwhelmed. You can do just as good or better by going to your local butcher. Fresh Market and Whole Foods offer comparable tasting steaks. We use Remington-Lott Farms here in Gluckstadt. They also have a store over in Flowood (methinks). Go to the Mississippi Farmers Market on Sat. and they will be there along with half a dozen or so other local beef producers. Shop around until you find one you like. Buy Local! If you're up in the Tupelo area try the Neon Pig butcher shop. Good stuff there too.
My boss ordered me a package from Lobel's of New York (https://www.lobels.com/packages/c/10) last year for Christmas of their dry aged prime selections. They came overnighted, vacuum sealed and packed in dry ice. Probably the best steaks I've ever thrown on my green egg.
Not really sure where in LA. He's told me before but i've burnt those brain cells. His retail shop is Flora Butcher in Flora MS. Definitely more expensive than Kroger but not much more than Whole Foods....... but some serious good stuff....and no where near the prices of some of the above mail order for sure. You're gonna pay somewhere around $30/lb for Wagyu ribeye.
Nice... I live up here in the deep north and have tried some others, but never Lobel's will have to check it out.
Kudos to maroonmadman for the West Point recommendation. I'm always on the lookout for good stuff when I'm back in Starkvegas; renovated Kroger in Stark is AWESOME, but meat selection leaves a bit to be desired.

Along the same lines, I once got some t-bones from one of those refrigerator traveling truck guys.
Hats off to the sales dude, cause he definitely had a talent. His sales pitch was “steaks are vacuum packed and will plump up when you open the package and oxygen rushes in. Might be a small amount of truth to that with boneless steaks, not so much with a T- bone. At least the jumbo shrimp were good.

Oxfords Neon Pig closed its doors on Sunday. We have a fair amount of MM competition here and NP never found a consistent base of customers. However, I went in for one last smash burger (it IS the best burger I've ever had) and asked, somewhat jokingly, if I could get some of the meat in the counter for dirt cheap. "Yes" was the answer and I walked out with 3 lbs of wet aged Waygu and a huge log of beef tenderloin for 20 dollars even, the greatest steal (and steaks) of my history as a consumer.
Anyone who lives in Oxford and hasn't checked out LBs or the Chickory Market should do themselves a favor and see both. LBs does some very unique sausages and the CM is the only place I can find lamb sausage in town. Also, I second whoever said something about the cuts from Costco. I usually go to Costco/Trader Joe's in the Memphis area once every other month and drop about $250 on meat alone. Those two also have a fine selection of fish that isnt available in Oxford.

Damn that’s crazy. The one in Tupelo stays busy from what I understand, and I totally agree with you about the smashburger. Granted, I’ve only been to the Tupelo location. Blue Canoe in Tupelo also gets a lot of their beef from the Neon Pig guys, and have very good burgers as well.
