Grew up in small town Nebraska so not familiar with Omaha school system. Was so confused when OPS cancelled football but Omaha Westside played then found out they are not in OPS Does anyone know why Omaha has multiple school districts and not just one system? Much bigger towns than Omaha act as one system, any reason why Omaha does their approach ?

Because some districts have opted out of being involved with OPS. Like the white supremacists in western O,

As areas of the city were annexed those non OPS school districts already existed and managed to fend off being absorbed.

There was also a push a few years back to consolidate them into OPS which was fought off. Now I think there is a state law on the books preventing any hostile annexation of a school district.
