Where did you see she dissed the country?
She competed for China .She’s an American athlete . Do you think the CCP would allow one of their athletes to compete for another country? To many she’s a traitor and dissed the country where she was raised, educated and will continue being educated .

So are you saying competing for China is equivalent to dissing America?

That's what I was insinuating when I said they had family back in China: either compete for us or your family suffers.

She's a traitor. I wish they could revoke her citizenship.
China doesn’t allow dual citizenship. She would have had to drop her American citizenship.

There are a lot of Chinese athletes competing for other countries.
A lot of Ping-Pong players as well.

Who said anything about watching the Olympics. It’s been a subject discussed all over the news for several weeks if not months.

Still have no idea what or who you're talking about.

I'm not on FB or Twitter so I must have missed this all important news story that everyone is all worked up about about some Olympian changing countries or something.

Let me know when she enrolls at Rutgers and then I'll care.

We won our first medal days ago.
I meant while watching on TV not on the medal count of the whole 3 we have. I try not to read the papers makes it more interesting only look at the medal count and we suck. We haven’t even been close to medaling in the events I’ve seen

Sorry it’s about principals. Evidently you never learned that simple trait. CCP has no principals.

You can tell plenty of times the announcers know the real problem, then quickly under someone's directions give the obligatory, "well the athletes just have to get their nerves out of the way and hit that big move".

I heard it a few times where they were talking about the surfaces and quickly changed course. It's almost like there's some Chinese guy behind the camera with a big stick waiting to wack them like Sister Elizabeth did when I asked if Mary was a hooker?
Do you realize nearly every event is covered by announcers in NBC studios in the US? NBC has a virtual skeleton crew in Beijing.

Ok then there’s an NBC head honcho with his head stuck so far up China’s *** telling them not to say anything bad about the surfaces.

During the aforementioned first US medal (women's slopestyle) they were talking about how bad conditions were the whole time. A lot of Wipeouts.

Oh hey, another olympic win for CCP, and huge blow to a free world:
https://www.reuters.com/world/china-argentina-pledge-deepen-partnership-expand-trade-2022-02-06/

“China and Argentina pledged on Sunday to deepen strategic cooperation on trade, currency and the infrastructure-focused Belt and Road Initiative, the government and state media said after a meeting of presidents Xi Jinping and Alberto Fernandez.”

Try and tell me this is normal. More like a tribute being paid to an emperor. Thanks a lot olympics for bringing these two together.

Wow. Mens 1000m Short Track was the most insane event ever.
Both Semi-Finals and then a Finals that wouldn’t even happen in a movie.

Can’t even begin to describe it.

China blows at the winter Olympics.

Wtf cares if a single athlete chose to compete for them instead of us.

Same whiners complaining about that would be celebrating if it went the other way.
I read half the Chinese hockey team is made of foreigner, mainly Candians, that have no Chinese heritage. They play over in China professional hockey league and have lived there over 2 years. I believe NHL are not allowed to play in the Olympics so US players are college players.

Werek is not alone in the fact that he’s not born in China: the team is comprised of 10 Canadians, 9 Chinese players, 2 Americans, 1 Russian, per Elite Prospects.

It’s all about the money, capitalism at it‘s finest. Gu will probably earn 50 times the earnings in China than USA with sponsorship and commercials.

Billionaire sponsorships surround Gu. On the streets of Beijing her face is everywhere, at bus stops and in shop windows. China has never won more than five gold medals at the Winter Olympics, so people seem to be celebrating in anticipation of the impending golden gift(s) from the American-Chinese Gu.

There have been plenty of Americans that have competed for other countries in past Olympics because they couldn’t qualify for the USA team. It’s almost every country taking the best qualified no matter where the person was born. I see this story every Olympics.

The U.S. even takes place in the practice. During the 2008 games, the U.S. hurried citizenship status for a Polish kayaker, a Chinese table-tennis player, a triathlete from New Zealand, a Kenyan distance runner, and an Australian equestrian, among many others who qualify for EB-1 visas for people of “extraordinary” abilities. Importing athletes has worked for the U.S., producing eight medals between 1992 and 2004, according to The New York Times.

This isn't exclusive to just the Olympics, it's international sports in general. In the ice hockey World Championships for example, Team Italy often features a number of Canadians that one way or another are eligible to play for Italy. People are getting bent out of shape over this, but it's been this way for a long time.

As for Team USA, a little over half of the roster is college players, and the rest are mostly pros playing in European leagues with a few AHL guys. The Olympics don't have a rule against NHL players participating, but the NHL doesn't always allow its players to go because it isn't in their best interest financially. The players want to go, so it usually comes down to CBA negotiations. This year, the NHL players were going to participate, but they had to postpone a ton of games in December, so they backed out of the Olympics so that they could reschedule those games during this time instead.

So if a dual national revoked their US citizenship - in this case to compete for China - do they need a visa to re-enter the country despite an address in the US as their legally recognized place of residence?

I tried watching luge Sunday. It was very boring. The commentators were just painful to listen too. My wife watched the skating though as I headed off to sleep
