Sad story out of Oxford where the two college kids were found dead. Kratom immediately is teased as the cause. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am sorry for the families and as someone who is familiar with addiction, it’s strange to me that they haven’t mentioned the million dollars worth of alcohol which was sold during the game.

I was in favor of the 7oh ban, but in my personal experience the only think Kratom leaf powder kills is the profit margins for big pharma.

I hope the families get the answers they need and aren’t unknowingly forced into a narrative that isn’t true.

Funny you mention that. The gas stations used to be run by businessmen, regular joes, religious folks, business folks. But I guess it’s kinda hard to show up for a deacons meeting when you’re selling meth pipes to the community.

Mississippi essentially has a recreational marijuana program now disguised as a medical marijuana program. Following the money, it appears that everyone who applies gets approved. The dispensaries are referring people to doctors.

I don't know anything about this stuff, but, it sounds like the equivalent of kids playing with loaded guns.

7oh was that. Kratom is more like coffee. 7oh took the active ingredient in Kratom and mutated it into something way more potent than morphine. (Supposedly, could be fentanyl for all we know) And it’s back in the stores already under a new name.

I'm totally out of the loop here...... what is kratom? what is 7oh?

I essentially never go in convenience stores. ever......basically, only time I do go in is during travel for a bathroom stop..... what I have noticed is that it's like a gateway to the unhealthiest stuff money can buy, and watched a individual buy a 6 pack, and then at the counter grabbed enough stuff by the register and 2 packs of smokes that the 6 pack was about 20% of his purchase price.

I guess the other reason I don't go in them anymore is that here in Jackson, it's like they are considered economic development for the city. I refuse to support that

Terrible situation in Oxford.

I have friends who have lost kids high school/college kids. It's horrific. I have one at State and have told him I need him to be responsible about stuff like this.

I've coached kids in youth sports for years and it's a joy to see them grow and move into different phases of life. But there's been a small handful who haven't. And it's heartbreaking.

That said, and man, I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but this stuff is darwin in action. If someone is dumb enough to buy a packet of shlt from a gas station and ingest it, if they're dumb enough to drink 3x the legal limit and then get behind the wheel of a car, if they're dumb enough to swallow a pill someone gave them that wasn't prescribed, well...

At some point folks have to come to grips with the fact that these kids are making terrible choices and the adults around them have to do a better job of preparing them to be able to make better choices. I know, I know, not everyone has someone like that in their life. And that's the biggest shame of it all.

Folks have to stop buying stuff from Indian gas stations. They have those glass cases full of swords, dragon daggers, capsules, powders, vapes, gummies, etc…. All trash.

For context on cannabis/hemp products in the metro you have several legitimate sources like Root Down (dispensary) and the Magnolia Hemp Co (hemp products). Gotta buy reputable.

As far as banning whatever substance, it’s a loser argument & that’s because you ban a compound, the gov’t bans a specific chemical. All they do is slightly alter and it’s back on the shelf. This has been going on in athletic supplements for decades. Ban whatever substance you want and it will reappear whether you like it or not in a slightly (and possibly more dangerous) state.

I don’t know the legality of how you do it but gas stations, which are dominated by foreign communities, need to be banned from selling all that bs in the glass cases. Maybe some sort of grocery law that only allows certain products because these folks cannot be trusted to sell to youth.

While we’re here, if you ever notice weird things for sale on a gas station counter, like a glass tube with a mini fake flower in it, or something like that and you think, who would buy that? It’s a crack and/or meth pipe.
