I have some old stereo equipment that I bought new in 1987 from Ideal Acoustics in Starkville. Klipsch Heresey II speakers, Denon receiver and cassette deck. Is there a market for this? I’m not really trying to make a profit from it. They are just gathering dust. I see the speakers are going for $800-$1000 on eBay, but I wouldn’t ask that much. As I have gotten older, I’m just trying to clear out stuff that hasn’t been used.

I'm sure there's probably a market for it because people will buy literally anything. It's crazy that you bought that in 1987. I was probably still in the womb when you made that purchase.

Retro is popular right now. One of my daughters wants an old cassette player Walkman. Shows like Stranger Things have brought it back.

There's definitely a market for it. Got on reverb.com to get a good understanding what something like that goes for.

I still hve all of mine but its been in boxes and on a storage room shelf for years. Yamaha R5 receiver from 1985 with a Denon 5 stack CD shuffle player from about 1988 and a Kenwood dual cassette player/recorder. Two big damn Technics speakers that sounded really good then but now could be comparable to some cheap sound bars and subs

There is definitely a market. There are people on eBay restoring old equipment and selling them at a premium. I’ve actually been wanting to find some old equipment to play my collection of vinyl and old cassettes (including bootlegs of my old band at Dave’s). Every time I think I might get serious about looking, I get sticker shock when I see what decent stuff is actually going for.

I took a 20 year old Sony receiver to the pawn shop last year. It was very basic, no BT and no HDMI. They wouldn't let me leave before selling it to them.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the tape in those old cassettes slowly demagnetize. They'll probably sound like crap after 40 years.

I have a Marantz 2270 from the early 1970s. Last time I checked, it's worth between $1,000 and $3,000. Also Ar2ax speakers and Dual 1219 turntable.

See. This is why I never will believe in “change is good” because explain to me why this generation is bringing back almost everything we grew up with?! They can’t because nothing is right anymore unless we undo the **** these youngins try to “change”

I had a Marantz 2220B with Utah speakers and a Sony reel to reel from that era but I can't find them after our last move. I fear that I absentmindedly sold them in garage sale 10+ years ago. Bummed.

Yeah but my band sounded like crap anyway.😀
I still have a couple of cases full of 80's / early 90's cassettes somewhere, but nothing to play them on. Album covers can be good wall hangers, but unfortunately, cassettes have no such use that I know of.

So I just hooked up the receiver and speakers to my TV. Wow. I forgot how great those speakers were. If anyone wants the tape deck, let me know.

I would have found out the price they were willing to let me leave before I sold it to them just below that.

Great market for the speakers! The Heresy will likely sell locally. Depending on type of finish and the condition, they should sell for $600 - $900 I think. Walnut brings the most $. Pretty easy to update the capacitors as well if you are comfortable doing that. Keep in mind that eBay prices (Sold Prices) do not reflect eBay's cut (~13% I think) and the effort required to pack & ship. I'd hang on to them! Check eBay sold prices to get an idea what the receiver could be worth.

Retro has a lot of interest now. Your Klipsch likely carry some value. Don’t know if link below will work but it’s to a cool YouTube channel called skylabs audio. It’s a shop that focuses on vintage audio.

They are walnut. They have a few minor scratches.

Sort of on topic, what has everyone done with their old CDs? I assume they are trash. Although some of the No limit records CDs are not on spotify. Got dozens of CDs from burned WSP and GD shows, but most of those are online now as well.

So where would you get old casette tapes ? It’s crazy cds are already obsolete. I use Spotify for my classic 60s 70s 80s music. Music today is garbage

Why do you say they are trash?

About a year ago me, wife , brother, and SIL were shopping thrift stores. We found an old 1920’s , 30’s , 40’s upright wood radio record player. SIL bought it for like $75 thinking she would hollow it out and make a liquor cabinet out of it or something. Never dreamed it would work, electric cord was even cut off it. After getting it home brother and I determined that it was probably a 80’s- 90’s reproduction so we put a cord on it and it worked. We went up in the attic and found some old albums and listened all afternoon. Listened to some stuff I haven’t heard in over thirty years.
