I was going thru some of my mother's things and came across some old MSU postcards. None of them are dated, but she graduated from State in '68 so I assume they're from that era. Thought some of y'all might enjoy seeing them so I scanned the fronts and I'll just type the captions from the back:

Most of those buildings aren't even there any longer. Makes me sad to think about what buildings I frequented the most during my time at State that may no longer be there in another 20-30 years... :-( They already tore down my first dormitory Suttle Hall.

Cresswell was the shiz. I wouldn't trade my time in there for anything. I remember sitting in my dorm room with my feet propped up, SBTB on one TV, Goldeneye on the other, skipping class, and thinking life can't get much sweeter than this.

Green carpet in the student union?

No trees in sight.

I wanna see Sessums or "Sexums" as we called it. Smashed a few broads in there back in the late 2000s. Ozarka's gf lived there too. What a loser.

I went up there a few times as a student (late 90s). It was various offices and one small auditorium at that time.

Actually, other than Smith Hall they all still exist. It's just that other than Lee Hall, none of them look that way anymore especially Mitchell Memorial. I would have never recognized it from that pic.

My wife is an MUW alum. We recently found a few M.S.C.W. (Mississippi State College for Women) postcards at an antique store in Bham. Very similar era to yours. Guy had hundreds of old postcards. I dug through everything in the Mississippi bin but no MSU cards. Already been picked clean I guess.

I was born in 80 and I remember some of my parents' tshirts from my childhood still saying 'State College, MS'.

Let's be honest. Blocking the entire view of Cresswell is the only way to take a good picture of that building.

When my folks wanted to send me money the envelope was addressed to State College, Ms (cant' remember the zip, if there was one)....from an alum of the Class of 1962

Post office wise, yeah, we were "State College, MS". I don't know exact date of the change or who instigated it. I handled all the alumni mailings back in the day. I never operated under the "state college" though. I *might* know someone who could offer up a hint or three about the whens and whys.

Holy crap that was some ugly green carpet! The "twin towers" building has always been my favorite on campus. I hate that it's hidden behind other buildings.

Our campus is so beautiful today. When I enrolled in the late 70s we had just endured/allowed two decades of ugly, utilitarian architecture to be built on our campus. The past two decades-- save the ugly-assed space ship that is the Hunter-Henry Center-- we have made MAJOR improvements to our campus. Only a few of those ugly buildings remain. Time will take care of those, and we can hold on to the jewels such as Lee Hall (beautifully renovated lately, especially the president's office), the cafeteria, and that cool twin towers building

Stayed in Smith as Freshman.All freshman had to live on campus (boomerang dorms). You are correct State College was nothing but mail address.WE did end an era about that time, did away with class half a day on Saturday.That really did suck, glad to see It go away,
