A great place, but much like Mike & Mike in the morning, I guess their time was up.

Sad!

That's a bummer. Always liked Old Bay. Irish Pub seems like a step down.

Agree. Didn’t Blackthorn have a place on RT 46 in Parsippany that went belly up a few years back ? Was there a few times but not impressed. Basic pub grub and Guinness on tap. Very basic.

The layout of the Old Bay was lacking and the food wasn’t good enough to make it successful. Atmosphere was also lacking. Not a big loss for NB since it wasn’t much of a restaurant destination in town.

It was there for 30 years - what do you define as success?o_O

I always liked it as a bar and restaurant. Mostly, I just think the world needs more cajun/creole restaurants. Are there any other good ones around central Jersey? Remember there used to be a place in Branchburg or thereabouts but think it's long gone now.

New Orleans Steakhouse! Yeah, I grew up going to that place and used to like to go there for a small taste of the Big Easy after going on trips down south. Been gone a while now unfortunately...

Sorry to hear this. Though I haven't been there in a while, it was one of my favorites to take my wife to before a RU basketball game. Enjoyed the New Orleans menu.

Respectfully disagree. A restaurant doesn't last 30 years if the food isn't good. Also will miss some of the jazz/blues they had.

I think Delta opened up around the corner from old bay a year or so ago. Been meaning to get there. Nola food.

Old Bay is actually where I reconnected an Old friend who would later become my wife. I liked Old Bay (don’t go there much anymore) but it will be missed and I consider it wildly successful - 30 years!

This is my favorite bar in the area, it was a bummer to hear about it closing. I was hoping that whatever replaced it would still have a good beer selection, but since beer doesn't even seem to be mentioned on Blackthorn's website, I guess that won't be the case.

If it has Guinness on tap you don't need anything else.. heathen. Well.. maybe something for the "tan".

Worked at the Hyatt during school and a bunch of us used to hang out at Old Bay after work. Had good times there and I liked the food.

When they stopped serving lunch some years ago it was the beginning of the end.

Truly sad to see the place go. It was one of the first bars around where you could get "micro" brews back in the day. I remember sitting upstairs with my buddies, listening to the live music and scoping out the talent down below. Had some great times there.

Delta's has been around for almost 20 years, and I haven't gotten there yet, shame on me.

Deltas is fantastic. I’ll miss the Old Bay. I went there many times for drinks, and occasionally for dinner, and liked it a lot. However, Deltas is better - nightly recommended

Silvers - Yes it's true. Tumulty's has a new look & new menu. The bar with the silver $'s is gone! Reopened early this year. I ate there in March. New menu was good just different.

$3 hurricane specials on Wednesday caused me at least 1/2 pt GPA.

In the mid-90s it used to be 1/2 price pints of micros on Wednesdays that was a nice study distraction. I think I remember getting to-go cups a couple times too.

I agree. Food was mediocre. I'm surprised it didn't close 10-15 yrs ago. Good beer selections though & people had fun at their parties.

It was a success for so long. Your post is ignorant.

Yeah, but it's apparently a Houlihan's now according to a friend of mine who lives in that area. Used to be a Bennigan's back in the nineties.

On a side note, why always a space before the question mark? Just like a period at the end of a sentence, the convention is no space.

I liked the place and atmosphere. Didn’t care much for the food when I found metal in it during a date!
