I'm just glad the Yanks got another W. I watched all 18 innings. Hopefully they will be alert tonight vs. Cincinnati. I just hope that Bird can come back at 100% and start hitting like he did in 2015. If Sanchez, Judge and Bird were all hitting well at the same time we would have 3 really good young hitters.

Castro, Gregorious, and Hicks are all only 27.

Yankees sleeping well tonight. Got just what they needed after 18 innings last night/this morning. Competent long start, and efficient relief pitching to back a potent offensive start that just kept adding runs. Kudos to Tanaka. Kudos to Tyler Clippard who made his third relief appearance in a row of 1 pitch on Saturday, 17 last night and 12 tonight. Kudos to Tommy Layne for a quiet ninth.

Also congrats to the bottom of the ninth win by the Mets. Watched both games side by side. Good night for the New York baseball teams!

If the starting pitching holds up, this team is gonna be tough to beat.
Hopefully, CC can keep the streak rolling.
If this keeps up we will make a trade for another SP. This team can win it all and we have the pieces in the minors to make a move.

Got just a bit of the game at the gym: wow, did the Reds look inept. Nothing against the Yankees, they played well, but the few plays I saw the Reds seemed to be out of position and flailing at balls that were hit by them.

As with any team, injuries can derail a promising season. My main concern for the Yanks is whether they have enough "good" starting pitching to get them through the season. A trade is always a possibility, but I'd hate to see a top prospect go the other way. May be knit-picking, but I'm a little concerned about the 7 errors by our third baseman.

Yankees actually have two reasons to trade for a good pitcher by July 31 trade deadline. The first is obvious -- upgrade for a possible playoff run. But Sabathia and Pineda's contracts are up and Tanaka can opt out of his at the end of this season. So acquiring a decent starter not only helps fill a potential 2017 need, but a 2018 season -- and beyond -- need as well.

Just enjoy the ride. Remember, before the Red Sox won their first Series they were pretty notorious for "Crush, Kill, Destroy-ing" their way through April and May only to get a flat tire by June.

Pineda and Severino are displaying consistency they haven't displayed in the last season or two, Jordan Montgomery is pitching well but he's still a rookie. Sabathia is just about done. So hold off on those World Series tickets for now and enjoy the ride.

Didn't like the comments from Joe Giradi regarding Aaron Judge's knees (plural) as one of the reasons he got the day off. To have a coach acknowledge something like that means that it is a concern and not minor.

Not a Yankee fan by any means but the whole Aaron Judge story is pretty interesting to watch play out.

Hope he stays healthy and keeps doing what he's doing. It's good for the game.

He's already a star, soon to be superstar.
He has all the tools and mental makeup to be an all time great

We'll give you Rob Refsnyder for him straight up.
BTW, I don't wanna really give mets fans any tips on this whole trade thing, but you don't trade a guy when his value is at its lowest.

Yankees go 4-1 on road trip. Can't complain about that. Off day today and then a big 4 game set with the 1st place Astros at the Stadium. I'll be there Saturday night. Let's go Yanks.

I've posted numerous times on this thread about the SP I think the Yanks need. CC will be given a chance to turn it around, but I think he only comes back next season on a cheap, one year deal. There will be better options out there (slightly more expensive, however) that they can try to use.

The rise of Severino/Montgomery is huge because it makes the Yanks much less needy when it comes to trades this season. I'm assuming the Yanks will get a chance to extend Tanaka before he makes the market. He will NOT get max money due to the potential elbow issue and he would be foolish to give up on the rest of his contract, IMO. I think a 2-3 year extension is where it's going to end. It will be in the offseason though.

Judge's knees will always be an issue due to his size. Being proactive and taking good care of them at this point in his career is a great move. I think he has a limited career at an elite level due to his body size and type. However, if they can get 8-10 great years out of him that's a huge win for the Yanks.

10 years years puts him at 36 which in today's game without steriods is pretty much the end for everybody. The days of being effective at 37 and above are gone for most players so 8-10 would be it regardless of his knees.

And that's why players take PEDs. Re grind of the season. Bonds was always a great great HOF level guy. He like many guys realized how much he can extend his longevity by juicing to the gills.

Makes no sense. He is a very big baseball player but sort of a fairly normal sized football type of guys. Their knees usually don't go bad because of size but because of abuse,

He's 6' 7" and 287 pounds. That's bigger than any NFL athlete except linemen. That's a huge amount of weight and stress on the body, especially with repetitive motion over half a calendar year. That's not even counting his minor league seasons.

There aren't many baseball players who play positions in the field to compare him to, so I will concede that it might be tough to say. However, I'm not shocked that his knees might be in rough shape. I just hope he's able to manage it so we can keep him healthy through his peak years.

Even though we lost last night, what a great ending to a game. That outfielder saved the game TWICE for the 'stros in the same inning!

Astros best pitcher on the mound (and maybe in the majors right now) and later their best relievers; along with a team full of .280 and above hitters; and they still had to throw out the tying run at the plate to end the game.

This four game set is a good early season test for the Baby Bombers. If they could actually split the four game series, I'd give them a passing grade.

I agree. I will take a split. Heard we are looking at Garrett Cole from Pitt. It would take Frazier and Sheffield. I am in between on it.

Judge played about 30 games last year (4 homers and avg below 200) and 30 games this year (13 homers and avg above 300) a little early to be designating him an all time great. Lets see how he does during the dog days and how he adjusts to the adjustments the pitchers will make after seeing tape on him

I agree. Especially since I've lived through Steve Balboni and Kevin Maas.
But if you're not a little excited over his hitting, his fielding, and even his base stealing...then you're a mets fan.[poop]

The season is 6 weeks old and the July 31 trade deadline is 11 weeks away. I think you'll have a far better handle on how close or far away the NYY are then. Garrett Cole and Jose Quintana are two guys mentioned but I wouldn't empty all my minor league stars for them. Cole pitched well until he had arm troubles the last two months of 2016 and he's bounced back nicely so far. Quintana is off but will probably come back to the "norm" during the season. If Yanks deal, they should consider the guys who will be blocked in their system. Jorge Mateo and one or two others could be expendable without causing a lot of disruption. And even if the Pirates or White Sox won't deal, you have all the other possible non-contenders who might.

I didn't say he wasn't fun to watch ... and even if I'm switching channels around and happen to see he is up or due up I will watch him hit ( Hate the Mets but Strawberry in his hey day was the same way)

I am ok with them trading anyone but Torres. He is going to be GREAT. Frazier is expandable. We have Judge and Hicks and will most likely sign Harper. Plus we have Fowler and Reatherford. Matteo can move to the OF. I like his speed. We can use a future leadoff hitter to replace Gardner and Elsbury. I am hesitant to deal Sheffield, but would do it for the right guy.
