OT: NY Mets Season

Silent protest for making that one ump look like a fool for the ball trick he pulled in the stands.
Frazier should have given the ump a chest bump.
Yankees Suck chant lead by Mets fans at Fenway. Perfect it works.
Fuxing BP has to be first and foremost with this team. Worth a minimum of 15 games this year.
What sux- is that this team showed enough life the 2nd half of the season that it will allow the owners to do absolutely nothing in the off season.
Good news is that Rosario finally looks like a solid major league player, McNeil looks to be a player only the Met's could screw up next year, Comforto is somehow finding his way to 30 HR's. Frazier and Bruce finally starting to hit(almost makes you think both could be 25+ HR guys next year) haha. Can Nimmo make it a full year and progress into a .280 25 HR guy? Starting pitching? Without a doubt best 3 combo in the majors and add in Matz for good measure.
Could be a solid to good team next year or could be no different then this year. Get a starting catcher, get a big bopper(the only real spend they have to do) and find a way to fix the BP. Maybe not the most expensive fix but always the most difficult.

Agreed catcher and bullpen should be main priority. I also agree we need a big middle of the order hitter but don't see how we can get that one done. Suggestions?

Simple question with a less than simple answer with this ownership. They haven’t approached me to take that position yet lol
-Get a young upcoming GM from Houston, Cleveland, etc who will be the complete opposite of Sandy.
-They need a legit catcher. Enough of d'arnaud/Plawecki.
-Either get a legit 1B or bring up Alonzo. Not Bruce or Frazier. I would also see if Dom Smith can finally take over if Alonso is not ready (even though Alonso probably would be ready for 29 other clubs but not the Mets).

Yesrutgers is right - bullpen is so hard to fix. For a few reasons:
I think Alderson had the right idea by focusing on bullpen quantity. In the selloff of 2016 and 2017 (mostly 2016) he acquired a bunch of young relief arms who throw 98. You do that and you hope a couple of them work out. Problem is, none of them has - yet.
Anyway, we know the Mets must go out and fill at least two bullpen voids - closer, and lefty specialist. Maybe they can fill the rest internally if enough of the young guys figure it out.
- You need so many of them in today's game. Teams carry eight in the pen, and at least five or six of them get used in key situations. Whereas the 86 Mets won the WS with basically two relievers.
- Relief pitching is the most volatile and least predictable position. Most relievers are inconsistent from year to year.
- Pitchers get hurt more than position players. Relief pitchers seem to (I have no evidence) get hurt more than starting pitchers. It's ironic that nowadays teams seem to baby their starters and overwork their relievers.

Rather than get a masher, I'd prefer getting a legitimate CF. Of course, getting a legitimate CF who can mash is the best of both worlds, but there aren't too many of those guys available.
What about the glut of corner OF's? All of whom happen to bat left-handed also. And no true CF.
The phils are the rhinocerous in the room. They will have to be dealt with too. Nats seem to be declining and hope that continues.
And please get a catcher. This team hasn’t had one in over a decade.
DeGrom finishes with a 1.70 ERA. I'm not sure everyone realizes how crazy good that is. In the lively-ball era (1920 to date) that would put him 11th all time. 11th in almost a hundred years.

3) Greg Maddux - 1994 - 1.56
4) Luis Tiant - 1968 -1.60 (Year of the pitcher, again)

6) Spud Chandler - 1943 - 1.64 (Asterisk for war year)
7) Dean Chance - 1964 - 1.65 (How'd HE sneak in here?)

9) Carl Hubbell - 1933 - 1.66

.'Masher' should also be in quotes. I'll pass on a lazy, .182 hitting catcher that cant catch.
I'm probably falling into the trap that the Wilpons want me to, but they've actually looked better since the ASB (34-29) and 30-21 since August 3. Besides JdG's brilliance, Wheeler and McNeil have looked great, while Conforto and Rosario have rounded into form. Now whether or not this continues into next year is TBD, but at least something looks promising. I'd still like an entire bullpen, a C and a CF.
Don't expect a repeat performance from deGrom. That would be unfair. They call it "career year" for a reason.
Also don't expect Wheeler and McNeil to repeat their second half performances. Especially McNeil. The league will find weaknesses and he'll have to adjust.
Conforto was probably rushed back from his injury (didn't he return about a month earlier than expected?).
There are holes to fill -- 3B, 1B (Smith or Alonso or Bruce), RF (if Bruce is part-time 1B), and Catcher. Something has to be done with the bullpen if the pitchers aren't throwing complete games. if Lugo becomes the 5th starter....and who knows when Cespedes will be back or how effective he willl be.
No question in my mind that deGrom deserves the NL Cy Young Award this year. Interesting that your list shows mostly NL pitchers, and the AL pitchers listed did it before the DH came into play. I believe Blake Snell of the Rays is 21-5 with a 1.90 era, and you really don't hear much about him.
Would be great when Schiano comes back to see him throw out the first pitch at a Mets game.
Maybe the next camp or recruiting visit then. Because we need more Greg around here-there has not been enough Greg. :sunglasses:
