Just want to see less walks.

But that ERA…😎
What is amazing is when you look at our pitchers from top to bottom- only Nunez has been hit(pitchers with more than 1 inning) Young is over a 4.00 with 10 innings but EVERYONE else on the team is under 3.56 (Megill at 3.56 which is also very good for any starting pitcher.)
That is insane.
Starters have a combined 2.87 era and relievers have a combined 2.82

I have had my doubts about Stearns but man, he has pitching figured out. And Senga really is an Ace...Peterson has made himself into a really good 2 or 3 and to see how Holmes and Canning are doing...

And the crazy thing is- I noticed it last year too- our starting pitchers walk a ton of guys. But now wondering, is that because they have been taught to try to make guys chase?

Agree. Less than 5 out of 6 is a waste. White Sox and Rockies are horrendous.
5-1 should be the expectation but since it is baseball and not football or BB - always a possibility that both teams get a win and we end up 4-2. I want 2 sweeps

Haven't seen the Sox play yet this year butI've seen the Rox in two series with the Padres. They are as bad as advertised.

The White Sox starting pitcher today is none other than former Met Adrian Houser. He is making his second appearance of the year, having pitched six scoreless innings in his first one.

I think it’s time to put the hitting coaches on the hot seat. This has been going on for too long now.

Currently 7th (out of 30) in OBP, 10th in slug, 9th in OPS. Perhaps they should be doing better than that. I would argue that they're right about where they should be.
And what about 20th with runners in scoring position.

Seems to me, the hitters had a streak where they scored a lot and put up stats, but again, to me, seems like there are too many games where the approach has been poor.

Ahh, but are they timely hits? And are they still leaving small battalions on base every game?

I agree. A lot of people can hit in a 5-0 game in the in the 8th inning. Or leading off the game. But what do you do when it's 2nd and 3rd down 1 run or tied in the 8th inning? Or bases loaded in a tie game in extra innings where a hit or even a medium depth fly ball can win a game. They keep stats on all that too. Stats on late game, tight game pressure situations. I'm sure that in instances like those we don't rank much better if at all than a team like the Chisox. The night and day difference between the teams is in the pitching. Both starting and relieving.

Like the approach by Soto there, going to the opposite field vs lefty, getting the tying run home.

We are now at the 54 game benchmark, one-third of the season. David Stearns has called this the first checkpoint. He has said he avoids the temptation to draw any conclusions about his team, until he gets to this point.

So... You're David Stearns. You have reached the first checkpoint. What conclusions have you drawn?

So far, Soto is a bust, taking into account his salary.

Where can the team be improved?

Centerfield? Has Taylor found something, he has hit better of late.

Second base? Is McNeil ok there, Baty? What do we have in Acuna? His bat has gone real quiet now, his base running and defense is a plus.

Third base? Is Baty the answer? Can Vientos overcome his defensive deficiencies? Will he hit enough? Is he a DH only type of player?

Catcher? Is Alvarez ever going to hit enough?

When do our injured starting pitchers come back? Bullpen can always use another arm.

I’m sure there are other questions people can come up with, these are just off the top of my head.

I doubt that David Stearns is giving this much thought. Why would he? Juan Soto is now a sunk cost, an uncontrollable variable. For better or worse (and I believe it will be for better), Juan Soto is going to be here for a long, long time. There are no decisions to be made. He can't be traded, he can't be cut, he can't be benched.

The only decision is when/if to move him to DH, which is probably not a decision until 2027 at the earliest.

Stearns is spending his time pondering issues like the ones @MadRU has outlined. Actionable issues.
