Devils have easily been the better team since 1982, no comparison

Sad that Rags fans, especially the under 40 year old traitors from NJ, try to lump in KC and Denver into the conversation.

No one here cared until 1982 when the NJ crested logo guys skated onto the Meadowlans ice.

well,I dont have to bet because IF this is such a known intent, like you are trying to sell as factual, then the Devils will move Hall at the draft. If he stays around after the draft then your story is shaky.

This other poster just looks foolish. But, I would say by September something will be done. I would not expect Hall news one way or the other until mid-July. I do agree that the Devils will definitely trade him if he does not indicate that he will sign long term.

2012 was a completely different situation. Parise essentially turned into the Devils' own rental player. They got to a cup final so one could argue it was a good rental investment. The Devils of 2019-2020 have a different GM, different ownership, and are not in "go for it" mode.

Only in NJ could you have a local team where a sizable portion of the population roots against their hometown team. This same attitude is similar to the reason that many in NJ try to tear down Rutgers every chance they have to do so.

They can trade Hall to Kings for the #5 pick, Kupari and Toffoli

I don't get it either

If you're North or Central Jersey raised and under 40, there is no good reason to root against the home team.

Guys like zappa, I get it, there was no other option when he was growing up.

But I look at it this way, I saw many more wins, Hall of Farmers in their prime and Cups than Rangers fans did for a very long stretch of time

Good analogy with Rutgers too, with ND or Pen St football fans or Sewercuse hoops fans in NJ

I don't agree with that logic. The Devils would much rather use the 19-20 season as way / time to convince him to resign. If there's no progress, they'd deal him at the deadline for roughly similar compensation.

1982 on. Please. You cant just pick and choose which time frame counts. If that's the case I'll revise my previous comment - the Rangers have 5 championships and Devils only have 3, Devils are the inferior team overall

If you recall growing up in the 80s ans early 90s the Devils and Nets were on Sportschannel, which was a pay channel at the time.

MSG was free and my parents werent ponying up the extra $ so I watched the Knicks and rangers

1982 is when they moved to new jersey.

The simple facts are that for the last 40 years, it has been better to be a devil's fan. 'If not for Marty' comment is stupid... could say that without Messier that Devils fans would still be chanting '1940' from the rafters.

I happen to think that both teams are well run now (unfortunately as the rangers could always be counted on to spend their money poorly but this rebuild is being done the right way). Obviously the rangers are a more attractive destination (like the Penn State football of the NHL) than the Devils (the Rutgers of the NHL) so the devils have to build through trades and the draft. Just the way it is and makes it harder but they are putting together a good young team.

I suspect both will be good in two years and maybe the rangers get better faster, but i trust shero to put the devils together the right way.

Let's go all the way back since 1941, even though some of these teams began playing hockey many decades later.

Rangers: 1 Cup
Flyers: 2 Cups
Islanders : 4 Cups
Devils: 3 Cups

Rangers being an original 6 team, compare their Cups yo the others such as Montreal, Chicago, etc.

It's not pretty

Have you mentioned Hughes or Kakko in this NHL draft thread even once?

Since this thread is about the NHL Draft (not stupid pissing matches), how about I pull out my inner @Source.

Through the 40s, 50s and 60s, if not for 4 Howe led DET cup wins, all 4 American teams would have only 1 cup win during those 30 years. (note: After camping with them as a 15yo, Howe's first contract offer was with the NYR - he turned it down because he was homesick). The 2 Canadian teams dominated. Why? No draft. Players were signed directly by clubs. The Canadian teams benefited in 2 ways. Since almost all players were Canadian, there were obvious hometown pulls from the 2 dominant Canadian cities. Plus, teams were allowed to "sponsor" junior teams. Montreal made famous use of this. Both factors created a virtual pipeline to the 2 NHL clubs.

The first "draft" was in 1963. However, it was still possible to sign directly with a team. Until expansion hit in the late 60s and rules were changed, the draft was mainly for unsigned players. A grand total of THREE players drafted in 1967 actually made it to the NHL. That was pretty typical of the early years.

The first "real" NHL Draft as we know it was was in 1969. 49 out of the 84 players drafted played in the NHL. They averaged over 300 games played each.

Cool. Did you know that Hall of Famer Lionel Conacher was traded to the NHL New York Americans (1925-42) in 1926 and then also became an assistant football coach with Rutgers for the next two seasons teaching the player's how to throw cross-field laterals. Conacher is in the Canadian Hockey AND Football Hall of Fame.

I think you have it wrong. Hughes higher floor, kakko higher ceiling thats pretty well established. And the devs are doing everything they can to appease taylor hall who is gonezoooooo after this year. My college roommate lives next to him in soho lofts in jersey city (rental building) and it’s pretty well known this is his last year in NJ.

Every writer that has referenced actual scouts has said the opposite. Kakko is more ready now. Hughes is the better skater but less professional type experience. He's also smaller and will need to grow a bit more. I'm actually surprised this is even controversial as it is not only well known, it is evident even from watching the players.

Here's a quote from an article just from today:

“I think they are pretty close but talent-wise I give Hughes the edge,” said yet another scout. “He is the better skater, has better speed and his hands are also at least as good, soft and quick as Kakko. Kakko is physically stronger and looks like a man already. Kakko is 100 percent NHL-ready while I think Hughes might be a slightly better player when they’re both 25 years old.”

All due respect for Kyk, not sure hockey is his strong suit.

Great post. I believe teams also had rights to players within a certain radius of them, even without drafting them.

I think that only 7 U.S. players have been selected as the number 1 pick in the NHL draft (tonight could be the eighth). The first one of those was from New Brunswick, NJ in the 80s.

Hughes should be a nice player but Cocko will be the best forward in the NHL within 3 years.
Personally, I think the Rangers biggest need is a puck carrying and controlling center...not a power forward.
I prefer the positives Hughes would give the Rangers over Kakko.
IE...put Kreider with Bergeron on Boston and he’s a 40 goal scorer by accident

Hughes and Kakko are both exceptional players but Hughes is the clear #1 pick because of his ceiling and he plays a premium position. Where Kakko is actually more of the sure thing because he has proven production against grown men, Hughes has Crosby like potential in his game. IMO, both players will be perennial all stars and set up a great rivalry for 10+ years.

As for all the saltiness from Devils fans in here, they just know that despite their success (as compared to the shirts) they are still baby brother which must be a tough pill to swallow :(. At this point in time the Rangers are in a much better position to succeed sooner and I am a man that lives in the present, not the past. But at least none of us are Flyers fans because THAT is actually the worst run team in hockey this side of Edmonton:joy:

Devils are going to take whomever Taylor Hall wants.

They absolutely will not do this. And to the notion that "Hall is gone after this year," it is nonsense. He will either be gone by the TDL at the absolute latest, or re-signed. Nothing their management has said or done suggests otherwise.

It's actually somewhat difficult to understand in this thread which people are trolling and which people are just retarded. Usually it's pretty obvious but the ambiguity here is telling.

1) your comrade kyk1827 has produced more salt than the Seven Seas combined

2) You can have your Big Brother status off the ice, we prefer to carry that Big Brother status on the ice. And we have.
