Get the blueberry pancakes and thank me later. Lots of good options in Little Italy but it can be a little hit or miss there. I also like Cafe Un Deux Trois on 44th. Seriously, if you can't find a decent place to eat in New York, you aren't trying.

Things to do in June:
Catch a baseball game if one of them is in town
Go down to Battery Park and take the water taxi around Liberty Island. I recommend this instead of taking the boat out to the island and going in the statue.
The Ground Zero Museum. DO THIS. Block out two hours and DO IT. Obviously it is not a party but very well done.
Chinatown. Go buy cheap crap.

Had an awesome meal there, and they have bocce ball courts. On that Food Network show, Best think I Ever Ate, Emeril said it was the best veal parm he'd ever had. There's a clip on their website showing it. It's been a few years, but I doubt much has changed. Too much chianti and I couldn't stop eating.

I want to say it's somewhere down around 14th street near Union Square. It's a restaurant designed by a master chocolatier, and every dish has something to do with chocolate. You'll gain weight just from breathing the air in there, but it's really, really good.

There are several including one in Times Square and one downtown. Cheap, but really good burgers and cheap beer. Unfortunately, there is usually a pretty long line.

Canal is the street dividing the 2. It's also where most of the Chinatownknock-off shops are. Lot's of subways stops for your convenience.

is an absolute necessity when I go back to my old home town. It is at 28 Mott St. in China Town. You can walk over to little Italy for dessert at Cafe Palermo's or Ferrara's Bakery.

Go to a Yankee or Mets game depending on who is in town. See a Broadway Show. Go to Ellis Island.

Ignore most of the tourist things that you've heard. Stay out of Times Square. It's boring and crowded with people from Kansas. Skip the Statue of Liberty and the WTC. Ellis Island is a cool trip.

Do see Central Park, especially the northern portion above 86th Street.
Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and go get pizza at Grimaldi's, just under the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

Go eat some food that you've never heard of. http://www.menupages.com will help. Want the best authentic Chinese food you've ever eaten: Congee Village in the Lower East Side.
Ditch the in-laws at night and go out in the Lower East Side or Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Lots of bars and music. Good times will be had.
Best museums: MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum, the Guggenheim, and the Brooklyn Art Museum.
Also check out the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, right next to the Brooklyn Art Museum.
If you go to the Brooklyn Art Museum and the Botanic Gardens, you MUST get a meal at a little hole in the wall called the Islands. It is right across from the museum. Delicious Caribbean food. The curried goat is dynamite. Get it to go and eat outside the museum.
Check out Harlem. There is some beautiful architecture up there. A mansion where George Washington once stayed during the Revolutionary War is located just north of Harlem.
Go see the Yanks. Yankee Stadium is the best stadium money can buy.

I would recommend Shake Shack or really any other of Danny Meyer's restaurants - Blue Smoke, Union Square Cafe, Eleven Madison Park, Tabla or The Modern. Also,immediatelygrab a slice from the first greasy spoon pizza joint you see.

I hear ya, bro, and I'm sure lots of New Yorkers wish that tourists had your point of view. It would make Central Park a lot more open for those of us that live here. ;-)

FYI, let me also third the motion on the Shake Shack. That place is the bomb. Actually, the best time to eat there is in the winter - NO lines.

He was glad to hear that I had a forest at home and didn't really want to smell horse **** while riding in a buggy. So we did things I can't do in MS.

I know locals like to get all snobby with tourists in any city, but if I'm in New York for the first time, I'm at least gonna go check out Battery Park and look out at the statue, Ground Zero, Wall St., Times Square, go up in the Empire State, etc. Even if it's just for a glance and a quick picture.

I'm the same way about all the tourist traps in Jackson, so I know what you're saying.
