I, like many of you, am mad/depressed over this GoT bs. I really need something I haven’t seen. We do this thread 2-3 times a year, but I never look because I have my Thrones and a few others. I am thinking about starting Barry. I’ve heard it’s really damn good. Heard the same about Daredevil and Punisher too. I was really happy with the Umbrella Academy, for those of you who haven’t seen it.
Dawg61, I hope this OT post gets 8 pages and stays at the top for two weeks.

Just finished Dead to Me on Netflix. The first episode or two, I wasn't sure about it but by the time I got to the third one, I was pretty hooked.

Russian Doll, also on Netflix, is also a good one.

Russian Doll is what I think my wife and I may start together. What about Bloodline or Ozark?

I've never seen Bloodline. Started Ozark and got through probably two episodes and just kind of abandoned it. Don't even really remember why - we didn't hate it but neither my wife or I were all that excited about it and I think we just kept picking other things to watch.

We also really liked The Crown, for what it's worth.

Not sure if you’re into creepy stuff or not, but House on Haunted Hill is an absolute must watch if you have even the slightest interest in a mystery. It was without a doubt the best show of its kind that I’ve ever seen

Killing Eve is pretty addicting. Jodie Comer who plays Villanelle is excellent in it. In it's 2nd season now. It'll run out of steam and can be a bit nonsensical, but I'm enjoying it.

Also, if you've never watched any of the BBC modern day Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, those are great.

Also, Orphan Black if only for the incredible acting skills of Tatiana Maslany.

Knightfall on History just wrapped up for the season. It’s not terrible, but I felt like the middle of this second season kind of fell off and got predictable. Picked up a lot in the last two episodes of this season though. I’d give it a solid C+. My wife and I are in the same boat with needing a new TV show.

Russian Doll, also on Netflix, is also a good one.

I second the Russian Doll recommendation. I was surprised by how much it hooked me.

I just finished Sharp Objects on HBO. I wasn't sure what to expect but had heard good things. It's a slow burner and has an unusual style, but I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a little of the show Rectify, though darker. (Rectify, by the way, is also worth checking out. It's on Netflix, I think. All things considered, it does about a good a job as I've seen depicting small-town life in the modern South and both the acting is mostly outstanding.)

If all else fails, you could try out any of the David Simon series that you haven't seen. I enjoyed The Wire, Generation Kill, and Show Me a Hero, and I've heard great things about Treme and The Deuce. All are on HBO.

Punisher is my favorite out of the comic book-turned-tv-shows, I really enjoyed it. Couldn't get into Luke Cage and fizzled out on Jessica Jones. I just finished Breaking Bad (had never seen it) and it was pretty good. I've heard Arrow is a good one, but I've never been keen on shows made by CW.

I don't know what you've seen or haven't, but Amazon has some good shows. Bosch, Sneaky Pete, High Castle, & Goliath to name a few. Daredevil and Punisher are good.

The Last Kingdom.

Some similarities to GOT, but stays rooted in what it is. Starts really good and gets progressively better to current. The ending of season 3 is a masterpiece. S4 is filming now. Unlike George, Bernard Cornwell is keeping up with the series with his new material. From what I can tell the major events are historically a true story, with some liberties(the main character is not known to actually exist, which is actually brilliantly explained in S3).

Any idea as to when S4 is supposed to come out? I was hooked on this show from the first 10 minutes of S1E1

i liked Ozark and I loved Bloodline, but they ended it too quickly. something about the filming expenses in the keys being too expensive so they stopped it.

Mind Hunter is very good, you can watch S1 pretty fast and they are making S2

I just rewatched this and ordered the book.

Dead to Me was great Christina Applegate was fantastic. Russian Doll was good. We just went back and rewatched Big Little Lies because S2 is coming soon and S1 was really great.

i've also liked Last Kingdom. good story on the Danes and early Brit groups.

i'm history buff and like watching period pieces that are out there.

my wife has been watching all the princess, queen shows on stars of the war of the rose time period with the yorks and tudors etc. it's ok. I think it appeals more to the females because that's what it focuses on is the back scheming stuff that they do to protect their children and family. I will watch it with her but they aren't as good as GOT, Tudors, or the Last Kingdom.

speaking of stars shows, i need to go back and finish watching Black Sails. I really liked it but got off of it with other stuff. I think i lack a season.

Russian Doll and Umbrella Academy were great. Netflix is having a solid year so far. If you haven't done Stranger Things yet, watch the first two seasons before season 3 drops on July 4.

I'll second Killing Eve, was a good first season but really getting better this season. Barry is also a good one and only 30 minutes. Man in the High Castle as someone else suggests. Ozark and rerun the Deadwood in preparation for the upcoming movie.

Chance on Hula is not bad. I'm half way through it. Season 2 of The Sons is playing now on AMC. Pretty good imo.

I think they did something similar to Dexter. 1st season or so was filmed in Miami, the show's location. The rest of the series was filmed in California, or something like that. A show that is based in Miami isn't even shot in Miami.

Chernobyl (HBO)

Chernobyl is an HBO mini series that runs for 5 episodes. If the last few episodes hold up to the standard the first two set, then Chernobyl may be the best series to hit TV. The first two episodes were Band of Brothers good. It may be the most intense show I've ever seen. I actually dont think its close.

Currently only the first two episodes have aired. The third episode will come on Monday. I hope it doesn't fizzle out because the first two episodes were amazing.

The Kominsky Method I have enjoyed. Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin are about as good as there is.

Sex Education was very interesting.

Both on Netflix

I started watching Barry a couple weeks ago and am caught up. It's definitely worth the watch and is hilarious. Noho Hank is a great character.

I cannot recommend Barry enough. Staying on HBO I will say season one of Big Little Lies is great. It was initially a limited series that was brought back for a second season due to how much people enjoyed it. Season two should drop soon. In a similar vein as Barry (kind of) Killing Eve is in the midst of its second season. It should all be dropped on Hulu after the season completes. A big gear shift on Amazon Prime is a show called Forever - Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph are outstanding in their leading roles. Handmaid’s Tale is coming back for its third season in June so if you have an inclination for dystopian futures I would highly recommend watching the first two seasons. (Also on Hulu)

The Duece on HBO is pretty good. James Franco is brilliant in it playing a set of twins. Storyline is based on the hooker/porn/mob scene in NYC. The storyline isn’t gripping like Sopranos, The Wire, or GOT. I’d put it a small notch under Boardwalk Empire but overall well done

Last Kingdom is actually right at the top of my favorite Netflix shows. I think the dude that plays Uhtred does a great job in his role.

Banshee on Amazon if you like your typical small town bad *** cop with a small town population consisting of a corrupt Amish guy that owns the strip joint, corrupt Indian Reservation, and the Arian brotherhood. It was originally on Cinemax so think of it like Justified except all the hot women get naked and have ninja killing skills. One of the most action packed pilot episodes ever. Seriously watch the first episode and you will be hooked.

If you’re in the mood for a bit of a supernatural thriller/horror show, I highly recommend Outcast. Created by Robert Kirkman of Walking Dead fame, it only ran for 2 seasons on Cinemax before it got canceled. Got positive reviews from critics and developed a cult following. The acting is superb, and it’s genuinely scary if you like atmospheric horror with a slow build. Unfortunately the ratings sucked.

The plot revolves around a small town in West Virginia where demonic possession is increasing at an alarming rate. The protagonist is branded an “outcast” for something he did in his past. He also is the only person in town who can drive out the demons.

I just started Billions a couple of weeks ago and it’s been fantastic so far. I also loved Ozark, but I’m a big Jason Bateman fan.
