ya and I'm not a big super hero movie guy. show is dark, not typical Marvel-type stuff (Dark Horse)

Came here to post about umbrella academy. I really like it as well. Starts a little slow but stuck with it and it’s reallt cool.

Too bad NF is getting rid of Punisher and Daredevil. These are 2 very good shows.
its interesting isn't it? I wonder if Disney (who owns marvel) feels a little ambivalent about the content. They are going to have a big Marvel-Guardians of the Galaxy ride... I think out in California they converted the Tower of Terror.

But Punisher.. the guy is basically a killer. And Daredevil tries not to kill.. but has that whole Catholic guilt thing going. Maybe they just have a hard time making it gritty and good AND acceptable to Papa Disney. Or maybe Disney thinks they are so good they want them for their own pay channel. I think the whole end-of-the-world thing with Daredevil was a bit much.. he needs to be more like Spiderman and fight local baddies... avoid the whole fantasy realm... there's enough evil right here on the streets to employ a local superhero or two.

They better not. Punisher as a show has a huge following. Disney better not do to them what other companies did to the Hulk. That crap show has been done, redone, 3 or 4 times, and it's one of Marvels major characters.

Disney is launching their own streaming service at the end of the year, you’re going to see everything marvel, Disney, Star Wars, and Pixar come off of Netflix as deals expire, already starting. Captain marvel will be the first Disney-owned theatrical that Netflix doesn’t get a first window on (or any window).

Disney’s service will be “kids & family”, but they also own what will soon be about 70% of Hulu (their stake, plus what they’re getting by acquiring Fox, plus a few other side deals). Expect series like punisher and daredevil, Luke cage, to end up there.

Disney is betting big on their service. They’re expecting to lose $150 mil this year from not licensing their content.

You will see more and more of these moving forward. The days of a one stop shop for shows and movies that have everything are coming to an end in a few years.

Just finished The Haunting of Hill House. Only 1 season released, 10 episodes. Excellent especially if you like horror. One episode blew my mind.
Just watched most of this series..I must say I was very creeped out. Which episode blew your mind? I have 2 more left.

I thought the Highwaymen was quite good. Outlaw King was good too. Takes place in the time period right after Braveheart ends.

The Bent-Neck Lady. Genius.
I knew it! I watched that ever so carefully with my hand blocking most of my eyes Hahaha. I love American Horror Story, but this show may be one of the creepiest I have seen in a long time. Stephen King agrees!

Just finished up Amazon Prime's "White Dragon" series (or is it a first season?).. its a mystery of sorts.. takes place largely in Kong Kong with all the usual suspects.. rich folk, husbands, police corruption, the triads, politicians.. etc.. pretty good stuff..

"Tin Star" on Prime (2 seasons) has Tim Roth who is always good.. worth a look.. features some beautiful Alberta scenery. Answers the question as to what a "Peaky Blinders" vacation in the Canadian Rockies would look like. Stretches the imagination a bit as to what a local Sheriff and various nefarious entities might get away with.. but it has some nice gratuitous violence.

Starting "Hannah" on Prime soon. It is available.

Also recommending Netflix's "The OA", 2 seasons, which is fairly bizarre in a sci-fi spiritual fantasy kinda way.

Previously mentioned in this thread was Netflix's "Pine Gap" and Australian import that passes the test for geo-political drama. Another one is "Secret City" which features the chick from "Fringe".

--somewhat SPOILER comment below--

It is more liberal and more anti-American than "Pine Gap".. which always bugs me.. but it was done fairly well. So if you like to blame America for all the world's ills.. you'll like this show. 2nd season was more blatant. In "Pine Gap" they balanced the criticisms of America fairly well.. explained why America might be doing something in their own best interests.. in "Secret City:" the only balance might be that China is just as bad.

Both those shows reveal how many countries might always have to consider their own political drama through the filter of how America's foreign policies affect it. We'd never get to see that kind of issue covered in an American show... naturally.

I mentioned a couple others in a previous post but I am really enjoying “Happy Valley.” No, it has nothing to do with PSU. This is a British crime drama about a kidnap. I’m only a few episodes into it but my wife and I think it’s really interesting.

Watching Ozark season 2 and catching up on Stranger Things before season 3 (currently on season 1 episode 5).

Also watched The Dirt, the Motley Crue biopic. Good, but Exactly what you’d expect. I’m awkwardly watching it on the bus to and from work.

Hannah on Prime is really good, but suspended reality that an 80 pound 16 year old is going to kill 5 soldiers at one time in a room lol

I had high expectations for Bodyguard, but was underwhelmed. The sniper scene was awesome, though.

I have to watch more of Kominsky.

So- because of this thread, I started bing watching Haunting of Hill House last night. About 11:30, one of my dogs sitting with me has to pee. Wife is sound asleep upstairs after mouth surgery and I come upstairs to my kitchen to see my sliding glass door shattering on its own “inside panel”
Freaked me the Fvk out.

Thanks guys

I had to switch from FIOS to Optimum Cable last week because they were increasing my rate by $75 mth. I lost my HBO and Showtime and received Netflix to keep my rate similar to my old rate. Other than Orange is the New Black, What shows are worth watching on Netflix other than HBO/ Showtime since I familiar with their shows?

The biggest shows on Netflix are "finding them".

Only strange thing with the show is the very weird casting of the father. So weird to have two well known actors almost the same age that look nothing alike to play the father but 20 years apart.
My mind just keeps seeing ET and Taps

Agreed...I must admit Theo is gorgeous.. I had no idea who the actress was, but after googling I see she is married to the director, writer, creator of the show.

Too funny- he must have loved casting her with the hot chick love scenes.
Their mom is very doable as well.
Does anyone else see Tim Hutton looking like old Greg Brady(forget actors name)

Would have still kept my first line the same but maybe not the 2nd one about the Mom...as true as it is

The guy who played Dr. Montague (Bent Neck Lady episode) was Russ Tambyn.. Riff from West Side Story.

I did like the show.

Just finished The Umbrella Academy. Definitely worth the watch. Enjoyed the series and am happy there's a season 2.
Onto Hanna on Amazon Prime, however, can't wait for the final season of GOT starting next week.

Not Netflix, but the second season of Killing Eve just started on BBCAmerica.

A lot more fun than the overly serious The Americans.

Late to the party, but all 5 seasons of breaking bad are still on Netflix.
