I had to switch from FIOS to Optimum Cable last week because they were increasing my rate by $75 mth. I lost my HBO and Showtime and received Netflix to keep my rate similar to my old rate. Other than Orange is the New Black, What shows are worth watching on Netflix other than HBO/ Showtime since I familiar with their shows?

If you're into the Marvel shows, there are several seasons worth available. Don't necessarily need to watch them in order, but there is some overlap.

The release order is: Daredevil Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 1, DD Season 2, Luke Cage Season 1, Iron Fist, Defenders, The Punisher, JJ Season 2, LC Season 2

Also second Stranger Things

House of Cards (watched up til this past season)
Narcos (not seen it but well liked)
Stranger Things
The Crown
Marco Polo (wasn't well watched but I liked the 2 seasons before it was cancelled)

BTW what FIOS package were you in because I have FIOS extreme with HBO/Showtime now and the contract is up in the fall. Just wondering if that's something I'll have to expect. Switched to FIOS over a decade ago and been satisfied but some crazy jacking up of price like that and forget it, I'm kinda surprised they didn't offer something more enticing to you.

$75 increase, I tried to negotiate without much success. It’s a hassle changing

I didn’t realize most of my relatives paying close to $200 without HBO SHOWTIME

Yea I pay about 170 but that's with 3 HD boxes. I have a triple play with extreme tv, 100mbps and phone. The boxes and fees are probably about 60 bucks of the cost.

I did a quick look though to see and yup I don't see HBO/Showtime in the Extreme TV package anymore and I don't even see HBO in the ultimate package (highest level for tv). Wondering if the ATT/Time Warner merger means they will hold in their DirectTV offerings and just OTT stand alone as opposed to inside a bundle. I have Netflix/Prime so I can live without those as I never watch them much except for a couple shows and never had them before the last few years.

Also notice their bundles all are gigabit speed for internet and nothing less. Those were new customer offerings though so I'll have to see not sure what will apply to existing customers. Thanks for you post though, it's given me a heads up of what I might expect in a few months.

if you liked those, watch Longshot...its a about a guy charged with murder, his defense was that it was mistaken identity, he was at a baseball game. It's just an hour

I really enjoyed Making a Murderer and Staircase - both documentary series about miscarriage of justice and corrupt justice system. Both really good. Also liked 13 Reasons Why and Stranger Things.

Ill add a few:

The Killing
Shameless
Mindhunter
Broadchurch

Mindhunters it's about the very beginning of the FBI's BAU (like Criminal Minds)
I was wondering about that one. I liked Criminal Minds for quite some time but then I stopped watching about 4-5 years ago. It got repetitive but I guess what can you expect from a formulaic show haha. Maybe I'll have to try Mindhunter.

The Rain. The version on US Netflix is dubbed in English, no subtitles except for stuff printed in Danish. Best dubbing I have ever seen/heard, far cry from the days of the Bruce Lee films. Good series and a season 2 next year.

Yeah, there are some really bad films when it comes to dubbing. This one makes fun if it. Check this one out:

Peaky Blinders is the best thing I’ve watched in a while. Only 6 eps a season so easy to get through.

Ozark is really good, didn’t love it as much as others have, though (new season coming end of Aug).

Last Chance U, finally watched both seasons and really really liked it, especially if you’re into college football.

House of Cards earlier seasons are awesome. Most recent season not as much. Worth watching for sure.

Arrested Development, big fan when it was on Fox. They recut season 4 (first Netflix season) to make more sense. Watching that now then moving on to the new season 5

Big Mouth is kinda funny and easy to get through.

My wife and I like to watch The Crown together.

We do the same with the kids for Stranger Things which was much better than I thought it was going to be.

Last Chance U is getting 2 seasons this summer. I think one is a follow up to the previous seasons and the other is going to be at another JUCO college that is really bad. So it should be very interesting to see.

Yes! Saw that It’ll be released next month. I’m excited. Will be interested to see the new school. It was interesting to see the guys who came from power 5 schools, and how they’re trying to get back up there. After the way s2 ended it kinda felt like they had to move on though.

I watched it with subtitles.

I recommend Dark. Make sure you turn off the dubbing though and use subtitles. It can get confusing with many characters and seeing the characters at different ages. I thought it was excellent

And if you’re looking for non-Netflix originals, you can’t go wrong with the AMC 3, breaking bad, mad men, better call saul.

The walking dead first 5 or so seasons are worth it, too

I don't think I did JJ2 or LC2 yet.. hmm.. I do like these shows... though Iron Fist is a little weird.. though they do make fun of it in the other shows.. there is a bit of crossover between them all.. with Defenders bringing together the 4 previous title characters.

As others have suggested.. Longmire, Peaky Blinder, Ozark, Stranger Things, Narcos.. all very good. I liked House of Cards as well.. but later seasons kinda slipped.. and with the scandal.. not sure I could watch it and enjoy it the same way. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is light and funny.. Orange is the New Black.. enjoyable for a few seasons. Altered Carbon has promise.

If you like CBS's Elementary, it is based on the BBC's Sherlock.. and I think Sherlock is superior and you can see it on Netflix.

Stranger things. House of cards. Trailer park boys. Breaking bad if it's still on there. Master of None. Friday night lights

Ditto on these Netflix shows:

Lillyhammer (in addition to Bruce, "Paulie Walnuts" has a cameo)
Gomorra
Narcos

Not previously mentioned (I think)- Berlin Babylon- a German series about Berlin after WWI

Arrested Development- loved the show; found this season to be very disappointing

I found myself constantly pausing the show to see where kids ended up going
