I had cspire fiber installed Thursday. The tech came early so i was not able to be there. I already have ubiquity wireless ap, so i did not get their router. I bought an edge router-x, configured it for a basic wan/lan with dhcp. I can see the wan IP address in the router and the router gives me an ip address as it should, but i cannot get to the internet. What am i missing?

if i connect the cspire cat 6 directly to my laptop, I can get to the net. If i connect the edgerouter to a port on my xfinity modem, i can get to the net through the edge router.

dns? Gateway?

i tried calling cspire, but hung up after almost an hour wait.

I don't post much, I know, but I am a Network Administrator. I encountered a similar issue with Xfinity Business not too long ago, where they bind the IP that is assigned to the first device that is connected to the modem. In your case, it could have been bound to your laptop, which can connect properly. The router will show the proper IP, but in my case, the modem was actively blocking the router from connecting. If this is the case, only CSpire will be able to help you or at least rule it out. Only CSpire will be able to tell you where your packets are going after the router and why the internet connection isn't actually being passed along.

Unfortunately, I have not made the switch to CSpire yet, so I can't speak to what their modems are like for sure, but if you'll tell me the make/model of it, I can do some digging for you to be sure :)

the only device i have from cspire is a box mounted to the outside of the house. Cat 6 comes out of that and runs into my office. That is the wire i am connecting to my router. Not sure what they call that but i dont think it is a modem?
