Need to be able to get it in Mississippi. Not looking to do anything crazy. Just a wedding gift for a co-worker's son who apparently is into rum. Thinking $50 or less range. I assume there is rum you would drink on the rocks in that price range? What say ye pack?

I drink a lot of rum, Ron Zacapa 23 is a fine bottle that can be sipped or used to make a great dark and stormy. Runs ~$50 / bottle.

Given recent events, this may be about as tone deaf of a post as it gets.

Nope, can't stand any banana flavored liquor. As The Col. said Zaya is the best sub $50 range, most of the time its sub $40. Kirk and Sweeny is excelent as well, price depends on age.

**** I live that nanner-pudding taste. Bumbu Mai Tai's are the best pool drink ever... Zaya is good for something like a dark and stormy though....

I know some people are treating rum like the new bourbon and drinking it straight, but that's what Scotch is for.

Appleton Estates 12 year will run you a little under $50. Good stuff. I have a bottle of their 21 year old and it's the best rum I've ever had.

Bumbu XO does not have that strong banana finish that the regular Bumbu does. Very good rum for $45.

I may have to give it a second chance. Zaya and Kirk and Sweeney go over an ice ball, if I'm mixing I like Captain Morgan Private Stock. Captain Morgan Black would be my second choice for a mixer.

I'm not a Whiskey guy and as I said before I'm not a fan of artificially flavored alcohol but if you ever see Ole Smokey Salty Caramel Whiskey, I highly recommend you try it. It's cheap, less than $20 per bottle, but pour it over a couple of ice cubes and you have a fine after dinner drink.

The XO is worth a try. Black bottle with silver Bumbu logo. Scotty’s has it in Starkville. Not much banana flavor at all.

Can never go wrong with blue top. Plus the money you save, you can get them a bottle of Dale’s to go with.

Blue Chair by Kenny Chesney is awesome. I have to slow myself drinking the coconut because it is just like candy to me.

The coconut doesn't need anything but ice.

Madman beat me to this!!
Went to Jamaica last month and had Appleton Estates for first time.
I don’t partake of rum much at all but this was the best I’ve ever had mixed in daiquiris.
Brought couple of 12 yr aged bottles home.

El Dorado 15-year. It's a blend of 15 to 25-year-old demerara rum from Guyana. Best sub-$50 rum I've ever had. Hell, it's one of the best sub-$50 liquors I've ever had, regardless of type. Bought a bottle for my father-in-law for father's day. As a whisky and tequila drinker, he was skeptical. Text I got from him the next day: "WOW! This is the best rum I've ever had."

It retails for between $40 and $47 where I shop (Southeast TN and Northern GA). The 12-year is great, too, and it's usually right around $30.
