How is the traffic over the bridge in Memphis for mid-day, mid-week?

I-40 bridge is still shut down, I believe
I-55 bridge is a parking lot during rush hour traffic....moderate to heavy during middays.

Bad at rush hour according to media reports. Instead I went south at Jonesboro down to Helena and crossed. Smooth sailing.

Went through Memphis about 10:30 Saturday and traffic was not an issue. Coming back from Omaha yesterday and passed through at 5. Waze said I was in traffic for 10 minutes. Bypassed some of the traffic going on frontage road. If not it could have been worse. Going from MS to Arkansas side was awful at 5:00. I would guess stand still traffic for at least 30 minutes. Do not go that way during that time of day.

Went to Little Rock on Tuesday and breezed back across about 6pm. Only holdup I had was a wreck at the Earle exit, about 20 miles from the bridge.

Things have settled down a lot over the past few weeks. Trucks that don't have to stop in Memphis are seemingly routing around it. Memphis and Arkansas both have made what adjustments they can to make it flow.

We came over it at 11 last night with no backup. Finally got back to Madison at 2am. Had a late start leaving Omaha after celebrating the game.

Saturday morning it was no issue either direction. Yesterday at 5 east bound it slowed down a bit because people were looking at a wreck on the westbound side. Westbound was backed up big time because of the wreck. In general non rush hour times you can get across easily.

Honestly it changes from day to day. Go ahead and plan on it taking an hour and if you make it over in 15 min stop and get a scratch-off because its your lucky day. I will say that going from Memphis into AR seems to be less of an issue than the other direction. You can bypass some of the traffic if you get creative by taking secondary roads. Check the maps when you are approaching the town, make a plan and stick with it.

Tip: look up IdriveArkansas.com and then zoom in on the map to west memphis/I-55 bridge area. Then click on the green traffic light on the right side of the page and click "traffic cameras"
This will give you lots of camera views of the approaches... You'll see how it really is moving. The cameras cover Ark and Tenn.
It is almost never bad going westbound on the bridge but chose your approach. We take 69/240 through Memphis and exit on Lamar Ave. Go west and Lamar becomes Crump...get in the left lane...Crump is the street leading to the bridge and will be the left lane on the bridge. I-55 leads to right lane...

The funny thing is that most big cities don't really consider this REALLY BAD traffic, but Memphians think this is bad.

After hearing today that the building that collapsed last night in South Florida was already being sued for cracks, the I-40 inspectors are thanking their deity of choice this morning because that could have easily been a bridge as opposed to a building fail.
