My crew loves Shrimp Basket, popcorn shrimp to die for, but only if marinated in dales
I like the Half Shell, Slap yo Momma BBQ is good , Taronto’s has great crawfish and bread pudding...
There’s a place in ocean springs called Vestige that we went to a few months back. Great local place with great food! We love downtown OS.
Do not want sysco in a box. Looking for more unique local restaurants. I see some people mentioning Mary Mahoney's so I assume it is up to the hype and worth the money?
Staying in Gulfport but will be in Biloxi a good bit, too. Don't mind a little bit of a drive for something worth it.
you have to eat The Chimneys in Gulfport. Great food not super expensive, great beer selection, and on the beach. They have great dinner and won best Brunch on the coast for their Sunday brunch. Get the house dressing on your salad and marinated crab claws as an app.
Biloxi has Half Shell and the casino steak houses/other restaurants. Fillin Station (roast beef poboy or crawfish nachos), patio 44 and mugshots are all in the same strip. Mary Mahoney's is right in that area too - very good just don't expect to do much after. Food is rich and will put you in a coma.
Gulfport downtown has Half Shell and their steak house - the Rackhouse. The Chimneys is good too.
Worth a trip to downtown Ocean Springs for an afternoon/evening of eating and drinking. Maison de Lu, Charred, Vestige and Phoenecia (byob) are good for the nicer places. Other bar food places such as govt st grocery, murky waters or glory bound as well. Eat Drink Love has fantastic lunch. Crawfish house is a little down the road but good food and beer selection.

I ate at The Rackhouse and it was pretty good. It's in downtown Gulfport.

Big Mikes Speakeasy is pretty cool, Half Shell, Mary Maloney’s, Captain Al’s is great, Sal and Mookies, Pattio 44, Bacchus. Don’t eat at Shaggy’s or White Cap. Don’t eat at Slap Yo Mammas. I ate there Saturday and there was no smoke, no seasoning, and the absolute worst service I have ever received anywhere. The lady started off by complaining she had to spend her Saturday there and it was downhill from there. Those are just places in Gulfport and Biloxi we eat at regularly. People really like Steve’s Marina in Long Beach but I’ve never had anything I enjoy from there
If I’m ever convicted of murder, my last meal would be the shrimp Po boy from Harbor View in Long Beach.
Mary Mahoney's is not cheap but it is good especially the gumbo, the only the dessert made in-house is the bread pudding, everything else comes off the truck.
McElroy’s next to Hard Rock in Biloxi for breakfast. Get the shrimp and grits but make sure to ask them to top it with crumbled bacon. I’m not sure why they stopped doing that. They have a pan fried grit cake in the center of the bowl, topped with creamy grits, a Cajun sauce, shrimp, bacon, and fresh grated cheese. I could eat it every day.
The rest of their breakfast is good too and it has a great view.
ETA: yes, Mahoney’s is worth it. Stuffed flounder is my favorite dish and worth the $35 price tag.

If you want local/unique:
Gulfport: Chimneys. Very traditional gulf seafood place. Trout mueniere, tuna filet, lots of dishes topped with lump crab meat, etc. About the same price as Mary Mahoneys, so pretty reasonable for the quality.
Rackhouse. Feels like a high end steak place, but cheaper. Same owner as half-shell.
Half Shell. Good midrange place. One in Gulfport is the original. There are two in Biloxi. I've heard the ones in Flowood and Hattiesburg are just as good, so if you are around those places regularly, you might want to just hit them up there.
Islandview actually has some good restaurants, but they won't necessarily feel local.
Long Beach: Darwell's is good in longbeach. Diners, Drive-ins and dives place. BYOB. Pretty cheap for dinner.
Harbor View. Traditional coast type food. Poboys, etc. Good breakfast.
Pass: Hook and Bacchus are both good options. Have heard good things about Whiskey Prime.
Bay: Trapanis or 220 North Beach offer good traditional coast food. Blind Tiger is very good bar food with some coastal/seafood options.
Ocean Springs: Lots of good options mentioned in other posts, but Phoenicia is probably the best.
Biloxi: Mary Mahoney's is good. They have a french influence. Lots of seafood dishes with heavy cream sauces. But they have lighter fare that's good too. It's higher priced, but pretty reasonable for a high end restaurant.
Blind tiger: good fresh bar food with a coastal/seafood flair. I'd prefer the one in the Bay if I were going to pick one.
the Reef: a touristy place but actually pretty good and has a good view. Worth going to but not worth waiting (and there will probably be a wait).
Many of the casino restaurants are actually good but they won't feel local.
Patio 44 is solid but not unique or local.
Fillin station - solid casual place, but most of the poboy places are sort of interchangeable now. Fillin station, lil rays, pirates cove, etc. Some are better, but I wouldn't drive for any of them anymore.

Half shell and murky waters. While you are in gulfport and if you enjoy craft beer, stop in chandelier brewery. Best brewery on the coast. Great selection. No food there though but murky waters is across the street.
BR Prime inside the beau Rivage - was there Saturday night. High end steak and seafood and it’s pricey. But it’s great. Take her to bay St. Louis to walk the streets. She’ll love it along the harbor. While there, hit Tripanis. Local seafood fare and very good. Very casual and reasonably priced. Also good is 220 north beach which is next door. Bay St Louis is the best kept secret im Mississippi. You can walk shop to shop. You’ll forget you’re in Mississippi. She’ll love it and want to go back to one of the festivals. You’re welcome.
Taranto’s in Woolmarket for great crawfish - in a small cinder block bldg. Go early or expect to wait a while ...
^^^ THIS is yelp quality, here. I'd mirror this recommendation, if I could. All the places I visit, are on this list. Chimney's, Half Shell, Darwell's, Hook, Trapani's, Phoenicia, Mahoney's.
I also frequent Salute (Italian), and a lot of the casino options. Used to eat Steve's Marina in Long Beach quite a bit. But it has been a few years.
While people's opinion on going to casino's are mixed, there are a lot of good options there (BR Prime for sure...). But the excellent local options are so plentiful, you can avoid the casino's if you like.

Nicer places, a little higher priced for some things: Mahoney's is great and consistent. Not only seafood but great steaks too. Agree with Chimney's in GPT and Phoenecia in O.S.
BBQ: Murky Waters is better than others. Great wings, good beer selection
Slightly more casual but not a po-boy joint: Halfshell, Patio 44 are both good. The Reef is a touristy type place but serves good food (nice deck overlooking the sound).
Breakfast: Can't beat McElroy's
Po-boy type dives: Taranto's in Woolmarket is the only one that is been around for a while and is still good in the Biloxi area (except for newer places I will list below). Sad that the Schooner went to **** (now closed) and Mary's Drive-in is long gone.
Newer places that are worth checking out: Quave Brothers Poboys in D'Iberville (very new but very good, very very casual). Southport Line in downtown Biloxi. Gollotts Fresh Catch in Biloxi (awesome location on Biloxi Bay).
Places that were mentioned that I would avoid: Capt Al's (new location but same owners that failed health inspections more than once in old location). Sal & Mookie Pizza (mediocre at best), Shaggy's and White Cap are terrible. Blind Tiger Biloxi has decent food (not great) but good location/view. Slap Ya Mamma is ok BBQ (Murky Waters is better)
