I got to watching older movies recently and started wondering has an actor ever had a better ten year stretch than Russell Crowe from 1997-2007? Please list any you think top it. TIA

LA Confidential
Gladiator
A Beautiful Mind
Master & Commander
Cinderella Man
3:10 to Yuma
American Gangster

I would go with Jim Carrey.

The Mask
Ace Ventura 1 & 2
Dumb and Dumber
The Truman Show
Liar Liar
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Bruce Almighty
The Cable Guy
Batman Forever
Man on the Moon
Me, Myself and Irene
The Majestic- criminally underrated movie

That is what he did from 1994 - 2004.

Brad Pitt would also have a strong case.

Good list. I’d go Tom Hanks 1992 - 2002

League of Their Own
Sleepless in Seattle
Philadelphia
Forrest Gump
Apollo 13
Toy Story
That thing you do
Saving Private Ryan
You’ve Got Mail
Toy Story 2
Green Mile
Castaway
Road to Perdition
Catch Me If You Can

And if you want to go with a 20 year run, Harrison Ford from ‘77 to ‘97 (Star Wars to Air Force One) is pretty damn strong.

Looking at that Tom Hanks list, I’d say that one would be hard to beat. Forrest Gump alone is worth probably 4 good movies on any other list.

You you are going Tom Hanks, it's 90-2000.

The list would be similar to yours but end at Castaway. But it would add in Joe vs the Volcano, Bonfire of the Vanities, A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, and Philadelphia prior to Forest Gump.

The fact is, Tom Hanks has never made a bad movie.

Yeah Hanks will be tough to beat. From more of the action movie side of things Arnold had a helluva run from 84-94. Terminator, T2, Predator, Commando, Running Man, True Lies, Kindergarten Cop, Total Recall.

82-92 gives you his best years. Because that will give you Conan.

And how can you forget Twins?

Larry Crowne was not a good movie. Other than that I don’t disagree with your statement

Sully sucked too. That Thing You Do wasn't great. Going back to the late 80s, Dragnet was pretty bad. But he's made a lot of great ones.

Tom Cruise. 1983 to 1993.
The Outsiders
Risky Business
All the Right Moves
Top Gun
The Color of Money
Cocktail
Rain Man
Born on the Fourth of July
Days of Thunder
A Few Good Men
The Firm

And then you add in all the Mission Impossible movies the next ten plus years, plus his lighter/funnier side in Tropic Thunder and Rock of Ages and ol Tom is hard to beat for one of the all time greats.

has been throwing fastballs since Romeo + Juliet in the mid 90's.

Denzel circa '94-'04 honorable mention. I was just thinking the other day how I wanted to watch Training Day to see how it holds up.

I started Training Day for the first time during the middle of the bad weather. Power went out as Denzel was about to shoot rook in the face for not smoking the bowl. I havnt gone back to watch it but I’ll go ahead and say...it’s gonna hold up.

Harrison Ford has done it twice. The man is Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Dr. Richard Kimble, Rick Deckard, and Jack Ryan.

That 73-83 run was something else.

and he got to bump uglies with a young Meryl Streep

nothing about Meryl Streep is attractive to me. she looks like a man before women looking like a man was cool.

Tom Hanks/Harrison Ford/Tom Cruise all hard to beat answers

Some of these are niche but I love Phillip Seymour Hoffman 2002-2012:

Punch Drunk Love
Red Dragon
Capote
MI: 3
The Savages
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead
Charlie Wilson’s War
Synecdoche, New York
Doubt
Moneyball
The Master

He’s also by far the best part of Along Came Polly, among others.

And in the 5-6 years before that you get Magnolia, Almost Famous, Hard Eight, Patch Adams, The Big Lebowski, Happiness, Boogie Nights

I love Daniel Day Lewis too, but his volume is so low that’s it tough to get far with a 10 year list

Meh, Dragnet sucked. It was some 80s cheese. Hanks himself has said he wishes he could forget it. Turner and Hooch is another bad one. Punchline sucked. As far as later movies of his, Captain Phillips wasn't very good, nor did I think Sully was good.

Most of his movies have been really good though. He'd definitely be my pick for actor with the highest percentage of good to great movies starred in. Just about everything he touched in the 90s turned to gold.
