I love Wentzel's. Especially the original one in Mobile. Great place to eat to oysters. It's nothing fancy, but has a lot of character.

I lived there for 15 years before moving to Stark 2 yrs ago. I sent you a PM with a list I made for a friend who was visiting a couple months ago. Was too long to post here. Broken down by area of town, cost, what time of day is best meal, and preference rating with * indicating highly recommend. Also has links to either websites or facebook.

The Bicycle Club downtown is a cool place to get a drink. Food is pretty good too. There is an Irish Dinner Club just off Government that has the best Sunday Brunch ever, the name escapes me right now. Giver me an hour or so and it will come to me.

"Can't miss" may be a stretch. If you've got time, you might ease over to Fairhope toward sunset and check out the pier. There's a place on the pier called Shux that is fish campy and decent. There's a place called Tamara's on Section Street that has pretty good seafood dishes along with standard casual dining offerings. Several options in the downtown Fairhope area. Neat place to walk around. If you have the ball and chain along on the trip, this would likely check her boxes.

Felix's, Hero's sports bar, Original Oyster House, Wintzell's. All kind of right either in town or on the bay. If you want to go over to spanish fort, daphne, or fairhope area there is probably a few better places to check out. Gambino's in Fairhope is one of my favorite Italian places. Jesse's in Magnolia Springs is a little further out but great steaks if you don't mind probably a 30-45 minute drive out there.

1) Felix's - Be sure to make reservations for either lunch or dinner. Get the crab soup. Shrimp and crab au gratin, stuffed flounder, any of the fresh fish are outstanding. Get the Moon Pie a la mode for dessert.

2) Callahan's Irish Social Club - Beer and burgers. Very limited menu, but great atmosphere and a top 2 burger in Mobile

3) Gambino's Italian in Fairhope - Huge menu, but almost anything with pasta and seafood is very good.

4) Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe in mid-town.

Also, Red or White https://www.redorwhitewine.com/ it has locations in both Mobile (just outside downtown) and Fairhope but I have only eaten at Mobile one. Their Gourmet pizzas are just yum.

I can second Cammie's Old Dutch for ice cream too. Doesn't look like much but...the ice cream is creamy, delicious and cheap.

Nicest place in town is NOJA, great food and better service, ask for Jason or Mark. It's not a burger and fried shrimp place so you will probably need a reservation.
Felix's is good but not as good as it once was. Callahan's has a great burger and very laid back.
No need to make the drive to Fairhope unless you just want to, (The Wash House if you do), there are new places opening in downtown Mobile almost every month.

Everybody's tastes are different, but there's a place my family's been stopping at for years out on Battleship Parkway in Spanish Fort called Ed's Seafood Shed (nicer and bigger than it sounds). We love it. Good oysters and fish dishes with a nice deck and views of the Bay. Great place to just sit and eat oysters and drink beer. The couple that ran it for 17 years recently sold it to a local chef who said he wasn't changing the mainstay items. Give it a look. We like it a lot better than the well known, touristy places out that way.

Felix's is hit or miss. Ed's Shed on the Causeway, now owned by among others, Panini Pete of Fairhope, is pretty good. For finer dining seafood and steaks try the Wash House in Point Clear or Jesse's in Magnolia Springs - both excellent. Southwood Kitchen in Daphne (run by Jesse's former chef) is supposed to be great but haven't been yet. Shux is ok food wise but sunset on the pier is really cool. R Bistro downtown Fairhope is good. Tamara's in Fairhope is a favorite and they have a great Sunday Brunch, bloody mary bar and bottomless mimosas. Fish River Grill by the bay in Fairhope is also a go to for casual seafood, burgers and good drinks. Get their bushwacker. Gambinos is our go to for Italian.

Just my opinion, but I think Mobile is the most beautiful of the 4 major cities in Alabama.

Fish river grill is highly under rated. Great burgers, fish, cajun pistols, and seafood at good price. I go to lunch at the locations in foley and gulf shores all the time when down on the weekends

If you go across the causeway, check out Papa’s Place (also can bring your own wine there). They usually have a good local seafood special.

Heard good things about Dumbwaiter in downtown but haven’t been yet.

Couple of other choices that are a little different than others mentioned. Mama’s on Dauphin (southern/soul food). 7 spice on Airport is great Mediterranean/Lebanese
