The thread about Columbus and places to eat about a week or so ago got me thinking about other unknown restaurants around the state that are good. A list might come in handy one day.

Columbus:

United Deli
Profit's Porch

Starkville:

Dave's (I know most on this board know about Dave's but its the kind of place an outsider would never find that has good food and bar scene.)

What else you got ?

COVID has just straight up destroyed the restaurant scene in general everywhere, from the original shutdowns to the supply chain and labor shortages. It's just totally re-set everything. Some of what I used to consider great just aren't anymore. Very difficult to make this list at present.

Smith's Catering in Tupelo.

Hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans with a roll. Medium tea to drink. $3.80. better get there by 11:45 before the factories let out for lunch...

Only way to get there is with Doc's Delorian though.

Is Weidmann's in Meridian still open? It's hardly an unknown place - just wondering if it has survived.

It's open.

Edit to add: There are quite a few places I'd recommend.

I don't know if I'd call them Hidden Gems though. I'll comment again later today.

Steve’s Marina Restaurant in Long Beach

RIP Italian Night at City Bagel in Starkville

That’s off the top of my head. All of these are locally owned, good food, at a good value.

Blue and White in Tunica if you just want typical Southern fare. They have a lunch buffet with 3 or 4 Meats and 4 or 5 veggies that's usually pretty good.

Another vote for Bill's Creole in Flora. Probably my favorite restaurant period in the metro.

Also another vote for Crystal Grill in Greenwood. Huge menu and it's all good.

And for the obvious choice................................. Taco Casa in Vicksburg. /thread

You nailed it on all three of those.

Starkville:

Dave's (I know most on this board know about Dave's but its the kind of place an outsider would never find that has good food and bar scene.)

What else you got ?

I'll add
Tienda Hispania Las Aguilar-across from Dave's in Starkville
Finney's - Tupelo Best potato salad that has ever been made (For you really old folks, it used to be the Minute Man)
Fish Shack - West Point

In the gone but not forgotten category:
Mildred's Cafe - Okolona. Mrs. Mildred cooked on a home stove. You sat at the counter and ate whatever she cooked and you liked it. Don't ask for a hamburger!

Randomly saw Gibbes on Google maps earlier this week and it looked like an awesome atmosphere. Is the food good?

Long’s Fish Camp in Enterprise is my favorite place anywhere. The slaw will not be beat! I typically get the fried platter but the hamburger steak and ribeye is fine as well. Their fried shrimp are unbelievable. The only negative I have is their hush puppies could use some work. My mom could go show them the right hushpuppy recipe and they would be 5*
