Is this one of the most underrated deli’s in central jersey? I have never heard of it, but was in the area and in the mood for a NJ breakfast sandwich. Found it on google maps, walked up (the place is huge, has like 3 separate rooms) and ordered the #1 special, Taylor ham egg and cheese for $5.50. The guy put 4 slices of Taylor ham on the grill and a jumbo egg and I thought maybe there was another person who ordered. Nope. And the soft “hard” roll, it was just plain good. I’m on a tear and want to find other gems of central jersey small town Main Street delis with awesome sandwiches as described above ... thoughts

Regular at Millburn Deli - I call it more of a gourmet sandwich shop than deli. Famous for the Godfaddah sandwich - a must if not on a diet. Not far from it, try Tutto Fresco in Livingston - a true gourmet Italian deli. Freshly made mozz, roasted peppers, priscuotto, fresh Italian rolls, etc. Amazing.

First, this is not central Jersey. Second, it is not underrated at all. If you live in the area everyone knows about this deli. I think it is a little overrated because it has gotten so popular the quality has not kept up. Ten years ago it was the best but now it is still good but not as good.

The Milburn Deli has many in that area that swear it's the best.
But there are some in that neck of the woods that swear by the Town Hall Delicatessen in South Orange and it's selection of Deli food.
There seems to be a fair share of people on both Deli's side that feel their place has the best Sloppy Joe's

Central Jersey= region South of a line drawn from Driscoll Bridge and running due West to French town and North of I-195. Everything else is North or South Jersey. Because I said so.
I can go with western part of 78 (and drawing it straight across after 287) as the northern border of Central.

Agree with 195 being the line for the beginning of South Jersey.

South- beginning of the Pine Barrens. although the southern border of Monmouth around Allaire is fairly piney.

Moved out of the area five or so years ago, but when there, I frequented the Millburn Deli or Town Hall just about every weekend. I'd bring out of towners to the Millburn Deli and they could'nt believe the 'organized' chaos with people getting food before or after the games in the area. Miss both delis.

Grew up in town. The Millburn Deli is the best deli around, and famous for their Sloppy Joe's. Many other deli's around the state have tried to copy the Millburn Deli Joe... but none can compete.

When I played football in town you got a free sloppy joe the day after a win.... sadly I only had a handful in my four years for free. The Millburn Deli Joe, and homemade iced tea are the absolute best thing going.

Have you been to Brennan's in Rumson, and if so, how does it compare?

Don't know if it ranks among the best, but I've had few sandwiches better than at Joseph's Deli in Spring Lake.

Tiny little place next to Egan's Liquors on Warren Avenue just east of the railroad tracks. Across the street from the train station.

I'm across the street from Brennan's right now as a matter of fact. As another poster said... Brennan's is good, even very good... they have very good hero/sub/hoagie (whatever you call it) deli sandwiches. For a sloppy joe, nothing beats Millburn Deli..

Wow. I'm shocked.
Off topic, but if you like cajun/Louisiana style food, Clementines in Avon by the Sea is a must. I nearly fell over when the owner/hostess told me they have been open for 12 years. Some times the best places have been right under our noses for years.

Several good spots for a good sloppy joe in that area. Millburn is second place to Town Hall but it's close. Morristown Deli is an underrated spot in the same category.

Good food. Last time I was in there they had more tchotchke per square inch than a pawn shop. But very good food.

LOL. That's how you spell that word? We like Chachkee, and we found it interesting. They had good horse doovers too.
