I once saw a porno remake of A Midsummers Night Dream. Replace dream with cream and you know what to look for. Hope this helps.

I saw Hereditary last year and I haven’t recovered yet...despite the weak ending.
The wailing mother scene was soul crushing, devastatingly painful.
The whole house scene, just prior to the treehouse?
True terror.
This Aster guy is great, but I can’t take the combination of grinding emotional pain and pure evil horror.

Yeah saw that is was scary so I went with some friends. It looks creepy not messed up involving torture and rape. However if that’s what you can get from that trailer then good job Colombo

I’m curious how people who have seen it will respond here. Serbian Film was one of the most f’ed up movies I’ve seen and that is definitely in the torture porn category.

Saw it last night. Not near as crazy as OP suggested. Not a bad movie but Not as good as hereditary. Not close.
Alright since I’m getting called out. Lion King, The Departed and Good Will Hunting our my favorite movies. I am not the audience for this type of movie
I saw Midsommar on Saturday night. I thought it was very good, and in fact better than Hereditary in many ways. While it fit a lot of horror tropes, it really wasn't about jump scares or supernatural events so much as a slow-building dread that is punctuated with mostly off-screen violence (and a few scenes of gory body horror). The ending to Midsommar feels much more natural than Hereditary's ending, which was sort of abrupt and out of left field. Midsommar is also an interesting comment on the need a family, and especially the need for emotional intimacy and connection. What are people willing to do for that kind of connection?
On the other hand, I was left thinking about how palpably evil many of the old pagan practices like the ones depicted in Midsommar were. That overall feeling of evil in the movie is one reason why, while I thought it was very well made, I couldn't get myself to really like it. But, again, when people are suffering without any powerful meta-narrative or "loving" family to fit into, I can understand why that kind of paganism would be appealing.
Aster's focus on women characters also makes his movies more psychologically dreadful, I think, and allows him to play up the "body horror." There's less sort of brute physical horror in his movies than there is psychological and family horror, along with the sort of violence that doesn't require much strength to do.

Loved it. Different than HEREDITARY while still being a cousin. As previous poster stated, was a more natural feeling story, and was more creepy and eerie than flat out scary. Still dealing with family dynamics but with a different angle. Disturbing imagery throughout, very especially the opening 10 minutes. Both also dealt with cults, but in a different way... one was more a dark, background group, the other was a more sunny, outwardly seeming happy group that may have been more privacy seeking.
I think I liked HEREDITARY more, but only a bit more.
