funny that I am now a troll- I have been as big of a Met's fan that there has been on this board. Sorry that some of you are ok with what Stearns has done to this team.

Di Como reporting that Young's CAT scan came back negative, that he has full use of his extremities, and that he has "avoided the scariest outcomes". We are all thankful for that.
You don't expect to hear wording like that in a baseball thread.
Looking closer at that play, it looked like McLean may have made contact with Young's head with his foot or knee. Glad that is may not be serious.

Depending on how much of a season there is in 2027 he should hit that mark next year at 28.

You may think that the final week of the season is meaningless. Au contraire mon frere! These last six games are all important in the Tankathon standings.
Like the NBA, MLB has a weighted draft lottery, with six winners who will select 1 through 6. All non-playoff teams are in the lottery, except for a few (three this year) who are ineligible due to a limitation on repeat winners. The worse your record, the better your chances of getting one of the six golden tickets.
Right now, the Mets are fifth in the upside down Tankathon standings. (They're actually sixth, but the Giants are ineligible due to the repeat winner rule.) That means that if the season ended today, they would have a 62.6% chance of drafting in the top six, maybe even first. However, if the Mets get hot this week, they could "drop" all the way to 11th. In which case their likelihood of getting a golden ticket drops all the way down to 15.7%.
On top of that, also note that as in the past, the Mets will be docked 10 draft slots as a luxury tax penalty. In other words, if after the lottery they are scheduled to pick 7th, that pick is pushed back to 17th. HOWEVER, if they win the lottery and pick 1 through 6, they don't get docked! The penalty is then applied in the second round, where it is a whole lot less significant. So depending on the lottery results, the Mets could pick anywhere from 1st to 21st.
Please note that I am not suggesting that any Mets fan should ever root against their team. Not now, not ever. I am just providing information and you may do as you will.
Oh and one other thing. Depending on the results of the upcoming CBA negotiations, all of the above could go out the window. I doubt it though. Even if there are negotiated changes to the draft system, I doubt those changes will be immediate.

Baseball America on Mitch Voit who was named minor league player of the year.
Shortstop Mitch Voit started the season slowly with High-A Brooklyn and finished it scorching hot for Double-A Binghamton.
The 21-year-old hit just .213 with a .663 OPS through his first 20 games. He pushed his OPS to .774 over his final 56 games with Brooklyn and then to .947 in 29 games for Binghamton.
In total, Voit batted .273/.371/.431 with 13 home runs and 45 stolen bases in 105 games.
In addition to improving offensively, he also made progress with his defense and versatility. Drafted as a second baseman/pitcher out of Michigan in the first round in 2025, Voit started 73 games at shortstop this season.
“Mitch has done an incredible job improving from someone we drafted as a second baseman to someone who has proven highly capable of playing both middle infield positions,” Mets farm director Andrew Christie said.
“Our scouts did a great job identifying his athleticism, and our coaches have done a great job maximizing it. Specifically, (director of defense/baserunning) Tucker Frawley and (Brooklyn manager) Eduardo Nuñez have done great work with Mitch, and Mitch has been willing to put the time in to improve defensively.”
While Voit got off to a slow start in his pro debut, he took major strides in his first full season. He has improved his durability by taking exceptional care of his body and working with the performance staff to prepare himself.
Voit could become next season’s version of A.J. Ewing, whom the Mets didn’t expect to reach the big leagues this year but forced the issue as a 21-year-old and made an impact in New York.
Voit grew up in Milwaukee and played at Whitefish Bay High, where he was Gatorade player of the year for Wisconsin in 2022 before spending three seasons at Michigan. He played both ways as a Wolverines freshman and sophomore and then focused solely on hitting in his draft year.
That focus on hitting has only continued in pro ball. It could also help him solidify himself as the Mets’ second baseman of the future next year and beyond. If his success can carry over from this season, he should be up in the big leagues sooner rather than later.

Would love to see Voit make some serious noise for the Met's. If he can pull a Ewing and find his way up next year and do what Ewing did, it would be great to have him at 2B.
Speaking of Ewing - I have seen people talk about comparing Benge to PCA but Ewing's rookie year is the one that compares to PCA's rookie year. It can be argued that Ewing's rookie year is better than PCA's. And Benge's rookie year is definitely better than what PCA did in his.
If both guys progress even more next year- it will help a lot. We know that if Soto/Lindor are healthy, they will still be incredible offensive players. Add in Benge and Ewing being better, then we know that the OF and SS would be able to compete with anyone.
McLean will get even better and is a true Ace, Scott and Thorton should both prove out to be solid mid/back of the rotation guys,
So, this all helps for next year's outlook. But we still need another stud starter, bull pen and at least one more above average player in the field/bat.

Re PCA, his meteoric progression is not something we can reasonably expect from Benge or Ewing, and I know you are not suggesting that. But even defensively as rookies, I think there is no comparison. Benge is a good glove with an elite arm. Ewing is a very good glove with a good arm. PCA was, and is, just plain elite.
I wasn't going to try to say we should expect them to be legit MVP's by year 3...Just a pure stat comparison.
Interesting watching PCA though- who is a true elite 5 star player. His rookie year was ok, 2nd year- showed a lot of power but didn't make enough contact and did not have a good eye at all- this year, where he should run away with the MVP -his eye at the plate improved dramatically and that turned him up to a super elite rather than just pretty good.
