Stearns should've been fired in June. The team was terrible because of Stearns. Waiting for the trade deadline or end of season makes it worse. Cohen not signing Alonso and not even really caring about it is unforgivable.

So- as of this time- not counting RP...The Met's have a 2027 roster of Holmes, McLean, Scott, Thorton as their top 4...And there is a chance that could workout.
On the Field- Soto/Benge/Ewing in the OF. Semien at 2B, Lindor at SS most likely Bichette at 3B and Alveraz at C.

Only Sot and Lindor can be counter on for their back of the baseball card numbers if they are not injured.

I love how Benge and Ewing play but you never know what year 2 brings and neither of them look to be the level that are franchise faces such as players like Wright, Reyes, Strawberry etc...

We know that Semien is fading fast, Bichette is a decent hitter that cant field, no corner IF power and no speed. Alveraz- if healthy, he can hit but cant field. But he is injured all the time.

So- what the heck is the plan going forward? We do not have a savior in our minor league system.

Can Cohen really trust Stearns to be the guy...Or is he, as my gut is telling me- just the guy that protects Cohen for the lockout that is coming up in 2027.

Pirates sending a SS Sammy Stafura back to the Mets who is number 9 in their system, reportedly will be top 5 in Mets system.
The ranking is probably too low. It is likely based on his preseason evaluation. At age 21, he has been destroying High-A. OPS 1.021!

Believe in the plan- we now have Lindor's replacement. Mets can trade Lindor in the off season for 3 prospects that are in some organizations top 30...
Of course- Lindor can veto any trade but why would he want to stay- Stearns plan is working out exactly how he wanted it- oh, except that no one he has brought in can play baseball. But still, believe in the plan. At least in a different sport, we could be at least tanking the season for a franchise changing draft pick- maybe Stearns has forgotten what sport he is in.

Honest question - is it possible for this man to do ANYTHING right in your eyes? Do you reflexively criticize every move he makes, just because he is the man who made it?

Mets are really getting crap in return so far. We’ll be back to having to buy players after the year layoff next season because the farm system is garbage once again. Stearns is a disaster in every aspect.

As a Yankees fan I never wanted to see Luke Weaver leave. I didn't like seeing him in a Mets uniform at all. Now thankfully it won't be so unpleasant with him in a Pirates uniform.

This season has been awful. Almost every move that Stearns made went wrong. However, this team wasn't going to be that much better with Nimmo, Pete and McNeil. They're a total of 4.6 War for this year.

The team's winning percentage with and without Soto this year, in my opinion, was the most important statistics for this awful season.

What games was Weaver going to save when we lose games 2-0? I like this prospect a lot. Already forgot the name but also like the middle infielder who is hitting the snot out of the ball and stealing bases. The rest of the prospects……..TBD

Weaver was signed thru next year

If there is a season next year the Mets bullpen might be one of the worst in history

the last 2 months of the season are going to be brutal

take the opposing teams over with this bullpen $$$$$&

Honest answer - Here is my historical Stearns timeline. I thought it was a great hire. Year 1- hit some lightning in a bottle. Seve, Manaea worked out and Senga was looking like an Ace. Though- Councell not really considering to follow him over gave me just a little hesitation. OK- but we ended on a good note. I stayed a bit status quo until Stearns big moves were Montas and Manaea but he really wanted no part of Soto and already trying to push Pete out. OK- well, let's see how the season plays out. Starts strong even though his two big pitching signings were no where to be found - but last year's trade deadline was the kicker for me- every move he made sucked or made no sense that he got no SP's. That was just irresponsible in so many ways. And the trade deadline is what lost the season- not the players on the field. Season collapse. Like many- just get rid of Stearns now. So, we see how it plays out- Every move he made just looked terrible on paper. His reasoning -run prevention was just something he said to try to justify it. So- at that point- I was completely done with this idiot.
But, I hear posters like yourself and Zak- both very reasonable and knowledable. And fairly respected sports people on TV and radio - all say, he has a plan, give him time to let the plan work. So, before the season- you can go back and see- I said I didn't like any of his moves but, I will give him the chance to have his plan work and no sense in crying over players that are gone...So, I was going to give him time to prove he has earned his condescending smirk.
And from day 1- I had to ask myself and each of you "what was I thinking, he has no plan" - he has built this group of players like a rookie fantasy league coach. By May- I went back to where I am now- he is a f-ing idiot.
And now, even worse- not 1 single move has worked out and I don't see a plan for the future either.

So please help me out, along with 90% of Met fans- Answer this- "what does he do right? Why should we actually believe he has a real plan?"

At this point- there is nothing he can do right.

Bullpens are generally inconsistent from year to year. The Mets bullpen era was half a point higher last year with Diaz having one the best seasons in franchise history.

There are going to be plenty of relievers in free agency. Signing the right guys is the what the FO gets paid for.

I'm more worried about hitting next season. If Bo decides to become a free agent, which he probably will. Then he will be the best hitter on the market and we're not resigning him. It's a lean FA market for hitters next year.

We're going to have to really rely on Polanco, Simian, Baty and Vientos, unless we make some trades. Aside from Polanco maybe having a bounce back, the rest are who they are.

Solid pickup. Our middle infield prospects got a lot better today. That seems to be where Stearns focused this deadline.

I am honestly not sure what you are trying to say. Are you saying that selling to the Pirates is somehow beneath our dignity?
The fact that this team has reached the point of a selloff that includes getting rid of our best/most realistic trade piece to the Pirates (whose payroll is about one billionth of ours) is embarrassing. Not sure what’s so hard to understand.

On paper, that is a great pickup. He should immediately be slotted as Mets #1. Got him for a rental, and for a 4th/5th OF who had the best month of his career at exactly the right time. And who is also a rental.

Worm,

Any idea what the Red Sox are doing? The package for Ashley seems like a big overpay and now they just traded Mayer. I don't get it.

The remaining team members have no meaningful identity to Mets fans or the organization, except for Lindor. Soto here in year 2, and injured a good amount this year. After Lindor, the long standing Mets (more than 2-3 years) include Baty and Alvarez. Maybe Senga gets counted as one, if he returns to form. It's like watching a bunch of strangers.
